WYOMISSING NO TROUBLE WITH TRINITY 48-3

(Wyomissing, PA)  The Wyomissing Spartans came into Saturday afternoons matchup with Trinity a bit befuddled.  Despite a strong effort last week on the field,  the scoreboard showed a 21-7 defeat at the hands of the Pottsville Crimson Tide.  It took one half of football to put that tough defeat in the rear view mirror.  A strong second half performance propelled the Spartans to a convincing 48-3 win over Trinity on Saturday afternoon.

Wyomissing was led by QB Ben Terefenko.  Ben was 9-10 passing for 133 yards and 3 TD’s.  Tim Kowalski and Alyas Branford-Williams each had strong performances for the Spartans with 2 TD’s each.

Spartans Head Coach Bob Wolfrum  said “once we got going we were fine.  We were just not mentally prepared in the first half, we just cannot start out games like that.” Coach Wolfrum feels that playing on Saturday afternoons is a big advantage for the Spartans. “it bothers the other teams more playing on Saturday” said Coach ” we may be there only Saturday game of the year and I have heard a lot of other coaches say it is just hard to get there kids ready to go, I don’t think it bothers us.”

There was some good hard hitting  back and forth to start the game.  Finally Wyomissing put together a productive drive.  Alyas Branford -Williams put it across from the 5 and Wyomissing moved out to a 7-0 lead.

Trinity came right back.  A drive stalled deep in the Spartans end.  Back up kicker Jacob Shull booted through a short Field Goal  It was 7-3 Wyomissing with 10:40 until half.

Trinity never was able to stop Wyomissing offense the entire game.  The next Spartan drive was culminated by a Tim Kowalski 10 yard blast.  14-3 Wyo with 8:31 till half.

The solid Spartan defense gave the ball back to the offense as the half came to a close.  QB Ben Terefenko hit Brandford-Williams on a short TD toss just before the half.  Wyomissing went into half time up 21-3.

The second half was all Spartans.  Wyo took the second half kick and Terefenko hit Branford-Williams on a wheel route to get he score to 27-3.

Wyo had three third quarter drives turn into TD’s for Branford-Williams, Jason Gartner and Tim Kowalski.  It was 41-3 entering the fourth quarter.

Jordan Auman completed the scoring for Wyo with a nice TD grab.  The final was Wyomissing 48 Trinity 3.

Next up for the Spartans is a date in Orwigsburg with a tough Blue Mountain squad.  Trintiy has a conference matchup with Steel High.
