District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties
York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

As the number 2 seed in the District 3 Class A Playoff picture the Fighting Irish of York Catholic (8-4 overall, 6-1 league) faced the number 1 seed Mid-Penn Capital Division Lions of Camp Hill (10-2 overall, 5-2 league) in the championship game at Hersheypark Stadium at noon on November 22, and lost 63-49 in a donnybrook that was tied at 42 at the end of three quarters. The teams combined for 771-yards through the air and 460-yards on the ground, for a grand total of 1,231-yards of offense. The combined 112 points scored in the game set a new District 3 playoff record, besting the 103 points scored in Harrisburg’s 75-28 victory against Penn Manor in 2010. The 63 points by Camp Hill was the most scored in a District 3 Class A game, breaking the record of 56 set by Millersburg in 2006. The 49 points by the Fighting Irish are the most scored by a losing team since the 41 points by Reading Holy Name in 2008. The District 3 Class A Champion Lions will advance to the State quarterfinals and meet the Laurel Highlands Conference Marauders of Bishop Guilfoyle (13-0 overall, 10-0 league) at 7PM on November 28.

Bill Williams led the Lions rushing attack with 206-yards (including 5 touchdowns of 3, 80, 1, 4, and 35-yards), followed by Michael Shuster with 37, Kyle Remig with 9, John Williamson with 4-yards, Michael Hope with minus 1-yard, and Logan Vallati with minus 3-yards. Quarterback Shuster completed 28 of 41 passes for 441-yards and 4 touchdowns, 9 for 165-yards to Zack Kuntz (including touchdowns of 61 and 21-yards), 5 for 109-yards to Williams (including an 18-yard touchdown), 8 for 104-yards to Hope, 5 for 57-yards to Vallati (including a 23-yard touchdown), and 1 for 6-yards to Remig, for the Lions. Alex Gallaher kicked 9 extra points and Luca Colestock intercepted a pass for the Lions. Michael Shuster has so far completed 204 of 317 passes for 3,373-yards and 40 touchdowns, Bill Williams has rushed for 1,252-yards and 17 touchdowns, and Michael Hope has caught 75 passes for 1,280-yards, on the season for the Lions.

Hakeem Kinard led the Fighting Irish rushing attack with 105-yards (including touchdowns of 7, 3, and 2-yards), followed by Jaklar Kinard with 49, Gregory Bennett with 28 (including a 1-yard touchdown0, and Jack Burnside with 26-yards. Quarterback Hakeem Kinard completed 16 of 22 passes for 330-yards and 3 touchdowns, 7 for 149-yards to Qua’Shawn Grooms (including a 58-yard touchdown, 3 for 55-yards to Luke Brennan (including a 5-yard touchdown), 2 for 50-yards to Scott Barkowiak, 2 for 49-yrds to Dan Yokemick, and 1 for 20-yards and a touchdown to Joe Bauhof, for the Fighting Irish. Brennan kicked 7 extra points, Dan Yokemick intercepted a pass at the 2-yard line and recorded 1 sack, Grooms caused 2 fumbles and recovered 1 fumble and Joe Heldrich recorded 1sack for the Fighting Irish. Hakeem Kinard ended his senior season completing 120 of 232 passes for 1,936-yards and 19 touchdowns and rushing for 1,541-yards and 17 touchdowns for the Fighting Irish.

Mid-Penn Conference action

As the number 5 seed in the District 3 Class AAA Playoff picture the Mid-Penn Keystone Division’s Patriots of Red Land (9-4 overall, 3-3 league) visited the number 1 seed Mid-Penn Keystone Division Crusaders of Bishop McDevitt (13-0 overall, 6-0 league) at 1PM on November 22 in the semifinals and were shut out 44-0. The Crusaders will face the number 7 seed Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 Eagles of Cocalico (10-3 overall, 5-2 league) at 7PM on November 28 at Hersheypark Stadium for the District Championship.

Andre Robinson led the Crusaders rushing attack with 225-yards (including touchdowns of 10, 17, and 2-yards), followed by Que’Shawn Jenkins-Barksdale with 61, Tyrone Gibson with 24, Nick Marsilio with 11, Tayvon Bowers with 5-yards, and Matt Geiger with minus 2-yards. Quarterback Marsilio completed 9 of 17 passes for 192-yards and 2 touchdowns, 3 for 66-yards to Bryce Hall (including a 36-yard touchdown), 3 for 58-yards to Kyree Calli (including a 9-yard touchdown), 1 fo4 46-yards to Kobay White, and 2 for 22-yards to Robinson, for th4 Crusaders. Tyrone Gibson returned an interception 95-yards for a touchdown, Chris Mixon kicked 6 extra points, and Jenkins-Barksdale blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety, and Joe Joe Headen intercepted a pass for the Crusaders.

Phil Overton led the Patriots rushing attack with 85-yards, followed by Garrett Scott with 27-yards, Justin Johnson with 1-yard, and Kyle Campbell with minus 2-yards. Quarterback Scott completed 7 of 15 passes for 99-yards and quarterback Jake Radic completed 2 of 6 passes for 61-yards for the Patriots. Hunter Briner caught 3 passes for 78-yards, Tyler Hodges caught 1 pass for 31-yards, Campbell caught 2 passes for 24-yards, Kyle Mowrey caught 2 passes for 22-yards, and Overton caught 1 pass for 5-yards, for the Patriots. Scott Garrett ended his senior season completing 101 of 171 passes for 1,158-yards and 13 touchdowns and senior Phil Overton rushed for 1,834-yards and 24 touchdowns, for the Patriots.
