Riley Parker awaits the snap before scoring his second TD

Irony is a strange thing. The District four Class 1A title game was moved from Friday to Saturday night to avoid the heavy rains from the remnants of a hurricane. Saturday night in Muncy, It rained. What isn’t ironic is the fact that the rain played into the favor of the larger, more experienced Canton Warriors. The front line plowed their way through the wet turf, creating gaping holes for running backs Riley Parker, Hayden Ward, Weston Bellows and Michael Davis. Parker scored four times to help lead Canton to a 42-7 win. “Our guys are big up front, more experienced. They’re a little younger and we were able to just impose our will on them. We tried some other offense early but then we went back to what we used to be them last year, just power I” said Canton head coach Tyler Sechrist.

Sechrist was referring to the first quarter offense for Canton, a quarter that ended in a scorless tie. At the end of the first quarter, Michael Davis slammed a 57 yard punt that pinned Muncy deep. The Canton defense held strong giving the Warriors great field position at the Muncy 41. Parker ripped off two long runs then Davis himself went in from 5 yards out to give Canton it’s first lead of the game.

Cantons defense held tough again as the rain began to fall. Then it started raining turnovers for Muncy and touchdowns for Canton. Parker finished a 65 yard drive with a 17 yard td run, then after the defense forced a fumble, Parker scored from 4 yards out to put the Warriors up 21-0 with 3:37 left in the first half. “We came in with the game plan that we wanted to pound the rock and keep them from throwing and the rain kinda did play in to our game plan a little. But our lines did a great job tonight” said Parker.

Canton nearly scored again but missed a 20 yard field goal as time ran out in the first half. The second half didn’t see any relief with the rain nor for Muncy’s defense. Canton took the kickoff and marched 70 yards in 8 plays with Ward scoring his td from 11 yards out. They missed the kick however. On the next Muncy series Brenen Taylor blocked a punt putting Canton on the 12. The two pointer made it 35-0 to start the mercy rule clock. Parker and then Austin Johnson finished out the scoring. “It just wasnt our night” said Muncy head coach Sean Tetreault. Muncy finishes at 10-1 on the year.
