Once again, it was Danville and Loyalsock in the District 4 Class 3A title game, and once again Danville came out on top.
Over the last few years, Loyalsock has always been good, but not good enough to beat Danville. Earlier in the year, Loyalsock let Danville slip by them in a 28-25 thriller in mid-September. In the past few regular seasons, Loyalsock has played Danville close, but when playoffs rolled around, Danville took it to another level as they did once again tonight. Head Coach Justin Van Fleet has built a good program, but once again they failed to win the big one.
When Danville football coach Carl Majer took the job, he wanted to keep the winning standard that was left by Mike Brennan, he achieved that goal tonight. Over the last few years, Danville has gone from good to great in District 4 3A. Once a solid pick to win the District title, these last few years feel like they are the only pick to win the District title. Last year, Danville was able to beat Loyalsock 41-20 to win the title, this time they won by more.
What makes Danville so dangerous is that they can attack from both ways. Their QB Madden Patrick entered tonight with 45 passing TDs, but tonight he was more of a game manager and it was more Bo Sheptock running the football. This was evident with this 5-yard score.

The Loyalsock passing attack was on point in response, Tyler Gee found Jaylen Andrews on a nice pass over the middle to give Loyalsock the lead at 7-6.

Just before the half, Loyalsock was driving down 13-7, and they looked sure for points until Cameron Kiersch happened. He picked off the goalline pass and took it 54 yards to hold the score at 13-7 at the half.

Danville came out of the 2nd half locker room on a mission and dominated the final 24 minutes. After a pedestrian first half, Madden Patrick showed why he is statistically one of the best QBs in the state.

After Bo Sheptock ran a pair of TDs in, and Aaron Johnson got a pick-6, Danville had pulled away and won 40-7 to claim yet another D4 3A title.
Entering tonight, there was an underlying story that was almost as big as the game itself. Danville WR Aaron Johnson needed one more Receiving TD to break the PIAA receiving TD in a single season record with 28. Although he played well and so did his team, the record will have to wait at least one more week as he did not find the endzone.
The Ironmen as a whole were as advertised, in a different way. It was not a passing show like we’ve come to know for Danville over the last few years. Instead, they leaned on Bo Sheptock to the tune of over 300 yards and 4TDs and chewed up the clock en route to a big 33-point victory. Danville will either have a rematch with Wyomissing or a game with West Perry next week in the PIAA 3A Quarterfinals.
Loyalsock falls once again to Danville, this time in a blowout. They played them tough in the regular season but failed to give them a game in the 2nd half tonight. Loyalsock had over 5 dropped passes in crucial plays that restricted any hope of a comeback. Also, their inability to stop the run made it hard for the offense to get on the field in the 2nd half.
After the game, I spoke to Danville coach Carl Majer and the player of the game Bo Sheptock.
