“I’m feeling pretty good,” said the coach. “Being 4-0 is always a blessing, and while tonight’s game was a bit ugly, we figured out a way to get it done.” And get it done they did, winning 39-20 in a Heartland Conference clash. “The biggest thing was all the flags. We prided ourselves on not having many penalties this year, but tonight we had way too many,” he added. “We fought through it, though. We were able to run the football against a 10-man box again, and that’s always awesome. Having  Davis certainly helps.”

Jeremiah Davis shared his thoughts on the game. “I feel great; it was good to get three touchdowns. I think I was at two in every game so far, so it felt good to get another one. My offensive line stepped up when it mattered, and it’s a good feeling,” he said. Reflecting on his performance, Davis added, “Coach Wicks always says there are three phases of the game, and special teams is a huge part of it. Being able to take a punt return back was amazing. It gave our line a break and was just a crazy experience.”

The Dragons, with starting kicker Cohen Hoover out, converted an unintentional onside kick to start the game. This led to a scoring drive capped off by a 5-yard touchdown run from Tyler Down (8:37 in the 1st quarter, 2-point try no good). Hughesville responded a few drives later with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Conor Knight. Lewisburg retaliated, scoring the first of their three touchdowns in a high-scoring second quarter. Jaylen Walker split the safeties on a 72-yard touchdown run (9:06, PAT good). Jeremiah Davis then extended the lead to 19-7 with a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown (PAT blocked, 5:29). Hughesville’s Luke Stutzman pulled the Spartans back within 5 with a 5-yard touchdown run (4:25). The teams traded touchdowns again before halftime: Lewisburg’s Quin Michaels with a 42-yard run and Hughesville’s Conor Knight with a 10-yard slant. The score at the break was 26-20.

In the second half, both offenses sputtered for most of the third and early fourth quarters until Jeremiah Davis scored twice more on runs of 3 and 73 yards.
