Two heavyweights of the Mid-Penn’s newly re-arranged Capital division went to war tonight, and I’m here to talk about it.
The offense of Line Mountain fired out of the blocks in a manner not unlike a sprinter. Line Mountain made their way down the field on drive number one, moving the ball well through the air and on the ground. They capitalized on that series as Kaiden Maurer took a QB keeper to his left and into the end zone. (PAT good, 7-0, 8:00 1st). Line Mountain forced a 3-and-out on the ensuing Juniata possession. They would then trade possessions around midfield, and just when it seemed the Eagles were about to extend their lead to two scores, Jasper Shepps stepped in front of a crossing route and took it back for a 77-yard score. (PAT blocked). Line Mountain would score one more time before the half as Kaiden Maurer and Dalton Schadel connected for a 9-yard score. (PAT good, 14-6 LM, 9:48 2nd).
The Indians, to their credit, stayed in the fight as Ehrenzeller and Shepps connected for a touchdown early in the third. Javy Lopez would barrel in from 8 yards out a few drives later , at the 6:48 mark in the third. Juniata wasn’t able to convert on the ensuing 2-point try, however, so the score remained 18-14. That would spell the last of the Indian momentum, as Line Mountain caught a second wind. The Eagles were able to ride the momentum from that goal line stop and begin to move the ball offensively. Early in quarter number four, Line Mountain forced a bad punt and managed to start a drive with good field position. Kaiden Maurer found Avery Englehart for a 9-yard touchdown at the 9:03 mark. (PAT good, 20-18). Line Mountain managed to hold on to the lead from there.
Coach Carson on his post-game feeling: “I‘m Pretty excited, but more importantly, I’m happy for my staff and these boys. They were able to go out there and give me 48 minutes of good football, and I’m very proud of them.”
