The Jersey Shore defense spent a lot of time behind the BEA line of scrimmage
Tanner Lorson accounted for 340 yards of offense and 4 touchdowns and the Jersey Shore defense held the high octane offense of Bald Eagle to 200 yards of offense and zero points. “Boy, ya know they are a loaded team over there and I’m very proud of my boys” said head coach Tom Gravish. “They have playmakers all over the field, Jones, McClenehan, just a ton of firepower but we did what we came here to do. We didn’t want what happened last year, no miracle. We wanted to be in control.”
Neither team was in control the entire first quarter. I wasn’t until the 7:10 mark that Jersey Shore got their first points of the night, and it didn’t come easy. Pinned inside their 10 on the previous two possessions, the Bulldogs got the ball at their 11 yard line. Those extra couple yards must have felt comfortable to Lorson as he directed his offense on a 10 play, 89 yard drive that culminated with a 10 yard run. The point after failed leaving the score 6-0.

Two series later the wheels began to fall off for BEA. Eagle quarterback Jaden Jones twice had the snap go through his hands, the second resulted in a safety giving Shore an 8 point lead. “Plays like that are big. You have to capitalize on mistakes and I felt like we did that tonight” said Gravish. Lorson accounted for the next three scores, a 4 yard td pass to Anthony Shaffer near the end of the first half, a 34 yard td pass to Stanton Westlin and a 29 yard td run down the sidelines, breaking several tackles along the way.

“We had a really good week of practice. We knew they were a really good team and we just had to play our game” said Lorson of his performance. This game was a homecoming of sorts for Gravish. “All year long I root for the Eagles, I grew up here, played here and graduated here. I cheered for them on that long playoff run they had and I only have one game I don’t cheer for them, ours. That’s a good team there. I’m sure they’ll make another run this year. We just had a better night tonight.”
BEA closes out their regular season with Bellefonte coming to town while Jersey Shore hosts Central Mountain.
