“Anytime you can win the turnover battle, we battled that all year. Our two losses against Canton and Muncy we had nine turnovers so we really strived on working on that. Tonight we caused some and we played clean”. That was South Williamsport head coach Chris Eisworth’s take on the Mounties causing 4 turnovers the led to a 33-0 win over Cambria Heights at STA Stadium in Williamsport.

The Mounties opened the game with their typical long grinding style, marching 69 yards in 15 plays while eating up 7 minutes and 23 seconds. The drive set the tone with Ryan Casella and Kaiser Kistner carrying the ball for small chunks of yardage and eventually ended with a 2 yard plunge by Casella.

Dylan Scheller  started the turnover streak when he picked off a pass by Heights qb Isaac Weiland and returned it 58 yards to the Highlander 35. Kaiser Kistner got his first of 2 scores with a 2 yard td run. Tadd Lusk called his own number for the two point conversion to make it a 14-0 lead at the 9:32 mark of the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, Kistner intercepted another Weiland pass giving South the ball at the 47. Six plays later Kistner scored from three yards out to put South up 20-0.

Then, just when it looked like Cambria Heights was about to make a game of it, Garrett Jasper rumbled 29 yards to the South 25 but lost the ball and South recovered. Kistner busted loose for a 43 yard run to the Heights 32, then Lusk found a leaping Landyn Gephart in the endzone to put the Mounties up 27-0 as time ran out in the first half. “We knew they had some fast players. 87 (Jasper) is a really good player. I just thought the kids played hard, took advantage of the opportunities and they finished drives” said Eisworth.

On the opening drive of the second half, Heights once again lost the ball. South punched it in for another td, a 4 yard run by Lusk, for the final score of the game.  “If you have a turnover is a game changer. The other opponents gonna make plays but you have to make more plays and tonight we did” say Casella.

Kaiser Kistner ran for game-high 123 yards, 2 TDs. Casella added 87 yards and a td.

“I’m very proud of these guys” said Cambria Heights head coach Jarrod Lewis. “I’m proud of our effort. I told these guys they’re trailblazers. Next time we’re in this situation these guys have blazed the trail, showed us the way to do it. Credit to South, they’re a good, physical team and I wish them luck next week”.

Cambria Heights finished the season at 10-4. South Williamsport moves on and will face Steelton-Highspire in the semifinal round at a time and location TBD.
