Muncy, South Williamsport To Face Off For D4 1A Championship

Muncy (10-1) and South Williamsport (9-2) will meet this Friday at Stanley T. Schuyler Memorial Stadium in Muncy for the District IV Class 1A championship.
The Indians are riding a nine-game win streak after starting the season off 1-1 while the Mounties have won their last four games.
Both teams met on October 6 with Muncy pulling off a 29-28 overtime victory en route to a NTL Small School Division title. In that first meeting both teams were tied 7-7 after the opening quarter, 14-14 at halftime and 21-all at the end of regulation. In overtime South scored first on a one-yard run by Tadd Lusk. Evan Ogden converted the extra point, but was roughed the process. South took the 15-yard penalty, putting Muncy on their 25-yard line to being their overtime possession.
Austin Johnson found the end zone on the Indians’ first play of overtime to pull the Indians within one point. Rather than electing to kick it and tie the game and play another overtime period, the Indians went for two, where QB Stiles Eyer connected with Landyn Wommer in the corner of the end zone for the 29-28 win.
Eyer finished the game with 101 yards passing and 2 TDs while Johnson had 70 yards and a score on 11 carries. Jacob Fowler ran for 79 yards and score and also caught 2 passes for 43 yards and a TD.
Ryan Casella ran for a season-high 239 yards on 28 carries for South Williamsport and scored two TDs in that game.
Last week both won their respective semi-final games last week, with Muncy winning 29-6 over Northwest Area and South Williamsport holding on to defeat Canton, 24-18.
