Northwest overcomes four first half turnovers for win, 35-21, over North Penn Mansfield Friday night to remain undefeated.
The Rangers came into Friday nights game with just one turnover in their first three games, an interception thrown by Carter Hontz. That changed quickly in the first half as Cater Hontz would fumble 3 times and Derek Dietz fumbled a punt fairly deep in their own territory. Luckily, Northwest was able to stop North Penn Mansfield from scoring on three of the four turnovers.
The first half was pretty much uneventful scoring wise. Northwest scored first on their second possession with a 29 yard pass from Carter Hontz to Derek Dietz putting Northwest up 7-0 with 6:05 left in the 1st quarter.
The two teams would go back-and-forth with each other until late in the second quarter where Northwest Derek Dietz fumbled a punt where North Penn Mansfield would recover at the Ranger 36 yard line. A few plays later NPM’s QB Karson Dominick would throw a 32 yard TD to Sammy Lawrence tying the score up at 7 a piece with 2:26 left in the 2nd quarter.

Northwest next score would come from Big Play Derek Dietz. Deep in their own territory at the 10 yard line Carter Hontz would throw a short pass to the NPM sideline where Dietz would catch it about the 20 yard line. He would evade some tacklers and then turn on the burners where no one would catch him resulting in a 90 yard touchdown pass for Northwest. That is Derek Jeter‘s second 90 yard touchdown reception in consecutive weeks. The score would put Northwest up 21 to 7 with 5:18 left in the third quarter.
