Northwest overcomes four first half turnovers for win, 35-21, over North Penn Mansfield Friday night to remain undefeated.

The Rangers came into Friday nights game with just one turnover in their first three games, an interception thrown by Carter Hontz. That changed quickly in the first half as Cater Hontz would fumble 3 times and Derek Dietz fumbled a punt fairly deep in their own territory. Luckily, Northwest was able to stop North Penn Mansfield from scoring on three of the four turnovers.

The first half was pretty much uneventful scoring wise. Northwest scored first on their second possession with a 29 yard pass from Carter Hontz to Derek Dietz putting Northwest up 7-0 with 6:05 left in the 1st quarter.

The two teams would go back-and-forth with each other until late in the second quarter where Northwest Derek Dietz fumbled a punt where North Penn Mansfield would recover at the Ranger 36 yard line. A few plays later NPM’s QB Karson Dominick would throw a 32 yard TD to Sammy Lawrence tying the score up at 7 a piece with 2:26 left in the 2nd quarter.

The score at halftime would remain tied at seven.

NPM would receive the second half kick off. The Rangers would force the Panthers to punt on the first possession of the second half.

Northwest wasted no time driving down the field to NPM 18 where QB Carter Hontz would hit Derek Dietz for an 18 yard TD pass Putting the Rangers up 14 to 7 with 9:14 left in the third quarter.

Northwest next score would come from Big Play Derek Dietz. Deep in their own territory at the 10 yard line Carter Hontz would throw a short pass to the NPM sideline where Dietz would catch it about the 20 yard line. He would evade some tacklers and then turn on the burners where no one would catch him resulting in a 90 yard touchdown pass for Northwest. That is Derek Jeter‘s second 90 yard touchdown reception in consecutive weeks. The score would put Northwest up 21 to 7 with 5:18 left in the third quarter.

NPM would answer right back with their own 90 yard TD pass from QB Karson Dominick to WR Alex Davis. The Panthers were the still trail the Rangers 21-14 with 3:58 left in the third quarter.

Northwest again would waste no time marching right down the field to the NPM 1 yard line where Carter Hontz would sneak it in for another Ranger TD, extending their lead to 28-14 with 2:06 remaining in the third quarter.

NPM would make it a one score game when RB Kohen Lehman would run it in from 3 yards out making it 28-21 Northwest with 9:20 left in the fourth quarter.

The final score of the game would come on a QB sneak by Northwest’s Carter Hontz from the 1 yard line making it 35-21 Northwest with 6:13 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Northwest is 4-0 for the first time since 2013 when they finished 8-3 on the year with a district playoff loss to Old Forge 35 to 6.
