South Edges North in District 4 All Star Thriller (gallery included)
Mason Eddinger | June 24, 2023
The Stars Aligned again at STA Stadium in Williamsport for the Annual District 4 All-Star Game. Last year, team North represented by UMPC took down South in a 36-0 shutout. This time, it was a more competitive game with South pulling it out in an overtime thriller.
Across the district, the schools were well represented. On one side of the spectrum, Southern Columbia has been the perennial powerhouse in the area for the better part of 40 years. Conversely, small schools like Montoursville and Columbia Montour Vo-tech got their big moment in this game.

Watch the full game here (due to tech issues we lost the 1st six mins of third quarter)
In the previous games between these two teams, Scoring has not been a problem, with the average total score being around 50 points. Today, however, was different. Both Defensive lines reigned supreme and the offenses missed vital opportunities in big moments.
The game got off to a quick start when Kooper Peacock took a pass from Weston Bellows 71 yards for a North Score. Into the 2nd quarter, Brett Nye found Danville star, Mason Raup for an 8yd score. That would be the last big play of the half and the score was 7-7 after the first half.
As the teams got into the second half, the running game started to open up. North, who had 9 yards in the first half, had 136 yards in the second half. For South, the passing game was their bread and butter, they had 238 yards in the air. All of these stats did not equate to any points in the half. In a bizarre scenario, the District 4 all-star game was going to OT.
Into the 2nd OT period, Carson Persing found the right side of the end zone and ended the game for a South 9-7 victory. Entering the game, the focus was on the offensive firepower, but the defenses stepped up in the end and South edged out a close one.
Quote Worthy:
The game MVP Carson Persing said this about the win, ” It’s Great, we wanted to win this game last year, South team wanted to get some vengeance from last year, playing against some of the top talents in the area is always fun and to win it like that is always special.”
QB Brett Nye said, ” There was no doubt… we knew when we got that extra play we were going to score… The defense played out of their minds tonight, they did such a great job.”
LB Mason Raup ” We were confident we’d get it done, winning 2 all-star games is pretty good in my book.”
