WILLIAMSPORT – State College scored 42 first quarter points en route to a 75-14 win over Williamsport to open the PIAA Class 6A playoffs Friday.

“I’m proud of our kids to come out, show up, play and score offensively, defensively, and special teams-wise,” said State College head coach Matt Lintal. “The kids put in the preparation, our coaching staff put a lot into it and we stayed with our process.”

The Little Lions scored their first three touchdowns in just over three minutes of game play. After returning the opening kickoff to the Williamsport 21, Eddie Corkery connected with Ty Salazer for the game’s opening touchdown 55 seconds in. Corkery then connected with Cooper Brushwood for the second score, then Brushwood intercepted Port QB Elijah Way and returned it for a score to put State College in firm control.

Midway through the quarter State College struck again as Corkery delivered his third TD pass of the evening, this one to Daimear Coad to make it 28-0. A 10-yard run by Lamar Wilson, followed by a monster pass from Corkery to Hank Lustig, in the final two minutes and change of the opening frame increased the Little Lions’ lead to 42-0.

Lustig scored for the second time of the evening to start the 2nd quarter, returning a punt 67 yards to paydirt to increase the lead to 49-0, before Chase Hill put Williamsport on the scoreboard after returning a kickoff for a touchdown to cut the lead to 56-7. State College added two more scores in the half, a six yard run by Cooper Ingold and 70 yard interception return by Kellen Williams, to take a 69-7 lead into the intermission.

Williamsport added their second score of the evening with 5:15 remaining in the 3rd quarter on a 5-yard jaunt by Jamel Bailey, cutting the lead down to 69-14.

State College scored for the final time with 5:32 remaining on a pass from Keen Furmanek to Adam Schirf.

State College (11-1) takes on the winner of Pittsburgh Central Catholic and North Allegheny next week at a date, time and location to be determined.
