Turnovers and penalties aids Athens in victory over Northwest

Its week two of high school football in the state of Pennsylvania and both the Rangers and the Wildcats were looking for their first victory in their new campaigns.

The Rangers received the opening kickoff. The Rangers gained a first down before being forced to punt and the Wildcats would take over at their own 35 yard line . The Rangers then would force Athens to punt but Trevor Dietz fumbled the punt, and the Wildcats took over deep into Ranger territory and a few plays later quarterback Connor Davidson would call his own number and score from 23 yards out and make the score 7-0 Wildcats with 8:11 left in the first quarter.

A few series later the Wildcats Davidson completed a pass to running back Lucas Pursun and the Wildcats took a 14-0 lead on the visiting Rangers with 4:35 left in the first quarter.

27 seconds into the second quarter  Davidson had his second rushing touchdown of the night and his third overall as he took it in from 1 yard out making the score 21-0 Wildcats.

Not even a minute after his last score Davidson found the end zone for the third time on the ground and his fourth overall touchdown of the night making the score 28-0 with 10:40 to go until halftime

The Wildcats forced the Rangers to punt but had a third and twenty situation but that didn’t matter as Davidson took the quarterback keeper 70 yards breaking multiple tackles and scoring his fourth rushing touchdown of the half  making the score 35-0 Wildcats with 2:31 to go in the half.The Rangers tried to find some momentum but the Wildcats intercepted McCoy pass right before half.

The game went into Mercy rule for the second half and the Wildcats scored on their opening second half possession with a one yard touchdown run by #8 Brendan Cooke the extra point was blocked and the score was 41-0 Athens with 7:37 in the 3rd remaining.

The Wildcats capped their scoring for the night with a 44-yard field goal by the kicker Zachary Fisher making the score 44-0 Athens late in the third.

The Rangers were able to avoid the shutout when McCoy called his own number and score in the fourth quarter, they would try to go for two but they were unsuccessful making the score 44-6.

The Rangers look to end their losing streak as they take the short trip to Lehman to take on the Black Knights and as for the Wildcats they take the trip to Canton to take on the Warriors.
