On a beautiful night for football, the South outscored the North 42-35 in the 51st Ken Lantzy Football Classic.

Following game-opening punts by both teams, the South cracked the scoreboard first.

Conemaugh Valley’s Logan Kent scored on an 8-yard with six seconds to play in the first quarter for the icebreaker capping off an 80-yard drive.

The North tied the game when Central Cambria’s Hobbs Dill raced 24 yards to the end zone.

Kent scored his second touchdown with a 6-yard rush, putting the South back in front 14-7 with 5:11 to play in the first half.

Less than three minutes later, we were tied again as Purchase Line’s Mello Sanchez hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Richland’s Kellan Stahl.

The drive’s big play was Stahl’s 39-yard completion to Chestnut Ridge’s Matt Whysong. Whysong finished the night with a game-high 150 yards receiving on six catches.

The South then beat the clock driving 80 yards in the final 2:44 of the first half, scoring on Kent’s 15-yard reception from Bedford’s Mercury Swaim.

Kent finished the game with 78 yards on 15 carries while adding the lone catch.

The Second half began with more back and forth as Whysong hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Stahl 54 seconds into the third quarter.

Going into their bag of tricks, the South immediately retook the lead as Kent threw a 42-yard halfback option pass to Windber’s Keith Charney.

With the blocked extra point, the South would hold a 27-21 entering the fourth quarter.

Whysong ran a 35-yard touchdown out of the wildcat formation as the North grabbed their only lead of the night with 12:47 to play at 28-27.

Angelo Bartolini scored from four yards out to put the South back in front 35-28 following Swaim’s 2-pt pass to Jackson Byer. Bartolini added two catches for 33 yards on the drive.

The North would tie the game one more time as Stahl connected with West Shamokin’s Justin Wolfe for a 46-yard touchdown pass. Wolfe finished the night with seven receptions for 113 yards, including six for 103 in the second half.

Kellan Stahl completed 19-fo-28 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns while adding 35 yards rushing.

Taking over at their 20-yard line with 6:47 to play. Swaim led the South on a game-winning drive and capped the game’s scoring with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Portage’s Kaden Claar with 1:44 to play.
