Current 2025 Records – Model: 36-14 (72%), Me: 41-8 (82%)
Bald Eagle @ Bellefonte: Bald Eagle -1.5
Both teams enter this game at 2-3 after facing tough opponents in the first half of their season. Bald Eagle beat Philipsburg last week by seven in a game where its defense held a good rushing team to just 99 yards. Bellefonte squeaked by Penns Valley by a touchdown after rushing for 320 yards to just 23 passing yards. The key will be Bald Eagle’s defense, as the Eagles have held four of five opponents under 100 rushing yards, including their last three. I think Bald Eagle’s defense will make it hard for the Red Raiders to run, and they’ll win in close fashion.
Bedford @ Forest Hills: Forest Hills -8
Bedford has had a tough start to the season, losing four of its first five. Offense has been hard to come by for the Bison, as they have only 486 total yards, averaging less than 100 per game this season. Forest Hills faced a tough Richland team last week, losing 33-7. Despite turnover issues at times, Forest Hills has been one of the best passing teams in the Laurel Highlands, and its run game is solid as well, with 11 touchdowns through five games. I think Forest Hills’ offense will be able to get into a rhythm early, and this should be a comfortable win for the Rangers.
Penns Valley @ Clearfield: Clearfield -24
Penns Valley has yet to win a game in 2025, as its offense has struggled to find the end zone, averaging only one touchdown per game. Clearfield has faced a tough schedule, losing to Bellwood in Week 1 and Huntingdon last week, but QB Xavier Curry is still among the best dual-threat players in the conference, passing for five touchdowns and adding two on the ground so far. I think Clearfield should right the ship this week and get back in the win column.
Bellwood-Antis @ Philipsburg-Osceola: Bellwood -2.5
Bellwood is a tough team to figure out, with wins against Clearfield and Tyrone but losses to Huntingdon and McCort. When the Blue Devils are clicking, they can beat anyone, with a potent run game averaging just under 200 yards per game and more than two touchdowns. Philipsburg lost its second game of the season last week, falling by seven to Bald Eagle. Similar to Bellwood, Philipsburg goes as its running backs go, averaging just over 200 rushing yards per game. Bellwood seems to be hitting its stride, having allowed only seven points in the last two weeks, and I think the Blue Devils have momentum heading into a pivotal matchup against the Mounties. I’ll take Bellwood-Antis to get the job done.
Central @ Huntingdon: Central -0.5
These two teams appear to be heading in different directions this year. Central is off to its worst start in recent memory, while Huntingdon is off to its best start since 2018. To this point, I have been in wait-and-see mode with Huntingdon. However, after wins against Bellwood and Clearfield, the Bearcats seem to be the real deal. In their last four games, Central has scored just 27 total points, an average of 6.75 per game. Meanwhile, the Bearcats have held opponents under two touchdowns in four of their five games. I think Huntingdon’s defense will lock this game down early and push their record to 5-1.
Somerset @ Richland: Richland -36
Somerset has won the games it was supposed to, beating Johnstown and Westmont. However, Richland is one of the two best teams in the league and just beat a very good Forest Hills squad by 26. I look for Richland to keep rolling over Somerset.
Central Cambria @ Chestnut Ridge: Chestnut Ridge -1.7
Both teams enter this game at 2-3, and personally, I believe both are better than their records indicate. Central Cambria has the leading rusher in the Laurel Highlands, Ryan Chappell, and a solid QB in Mason Pittsinger. For the Lions, two of their losses have come in one-score games against Philipsburg and Forest Hills, both very good teams. I think Chestnut Ridge proved last week, in a 35-7 beatdown of Bedford, that they are a good team regardless of record. I’ll take Chestnut Ridge to get back to .500.
Johnstown @ McCort: McCort -35
Johnstown got its first win of 2025 against Westmont last week, behind a big performance from Cordell Porter, who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for the Trojans, they now face rival Bishop McCort, who has not played a game closer than 15 points this season. With McCort’s explosive offense, I think this game could get out of hand quickly. I believe McCort will continue its streak of 15+ point wins this week.
Westmont @ Penn Cambria: Penn Cambria -32
Penn Cambria’s only loss this season came in a game they gave away in the fourth quarter to Forest Hills. The Panthers have clicked in every other game, with an average margin of victory of 31. Regardless of their early misstep, Penn Cambria is among the best teams in the LHAC. Westmont, on the other hand, is in Year 1 under a new head coach after completely overhauling its offense. The Hilltoppers are still adjusting, averaging only 6.4 points through their first five games. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is the week to figure it out, playing a very good Panther defense. I’ll take Penn Cambria to win.
Tyrone @ Bishop Guilfoyle: Bishop Guilfoyle -21
Contrary to what the model believes, I think this is the best game in the Laurel Highlands this week. Tyrone lost a big game to rival Bellwood-Antis last week by 19, but turnovers made it difficult to mount a comeback against the Blue Devils’ run game. Since the Marauders’ Week 3 loss to Richland, BG has been rolling. Their defense has come alive as well, holding their last three opponents to just 21 combined points. The Marauders also had five different players score a touchdown last week in a 49-7 beatdown of Central. I think this will be a close game, but BG should pull away late.
