| November 16, 2022

It has been a long time since either of these teams have played for the D6 championship.  Penns Manor won the D6 A title in 2011 in their only other appearance in the championship game.  Northern Cambria lost in the 2003 title game in their only other appearance.

The 2022 D6 Championship will take place at Mansion Park on Saturday at 7pm.  The championship game features two Heritage Conference teams with #1 seed Penns Manor (11-1) taking on #2 Northern Cambria (9-3).  These two teams are also ranked in the top ten in the latest Pa Football News rankings.  Penns Manor is the #7 ranked team and Northern Cambria is ranked #10.  You can see all the other rankings here: PFN Rankings.

These two teams are very familiar with each other since they are both Heritage Conference teams.  They played earlier this season when Penns Manor beat Northern Cambria 40-14 at Penns manor on 9/30.  In that game Penns Manor’s Senior QB Max Hill went 3-3 for 56 yards and 1 TD passing, had 12 carries for 61 yards and 2 TDs rushing, and had 2 sacks on defense.  Penns Manor’s Senior RB Ashton Courvina had 10 carries for 99 yards and 1 TD rushing.  Senior RB Justin Marshall caught those 3 passes from Hill.  Penns Manor held Northern Cambria to 32 yards rushing in that September game.  Northern Cambria gained their yards through the air.  Senior QB Owen Bougher was 11-20 for 186 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT passing.  Senior WR Xander Dolansky had 4 receptions for 84 yards and Senior WR Peyton Myers had 5 catches for 81 yards with 1 TD.

Last week, Northern Cambria beat Cambria Heights 41-0 at home.  This game was close until about half way through the 3rd quarter.  The score was 7-0 until Cambria Heights fumbled and Northern Cambria scored about 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter.  Northern Cambria poured it on after that.  Senior Peyton Myers had a long TD run and then a 100-yard interception return for a TD.  Owen Bougher broke the Northern Cambria single season passing yards record and was 9-12 for 165 yards with 2 TDs.  Bougher now sits at 2,062 yards passing for the season.  Sophomore Ty Dumm had 5 catches for 135 yards and 2 TDs.

Penns Manor beat Portage 21-7 last week.  Senior QB Max Hill led Penns Manor to the victory as he rushed 25 times for 166 yards and 2 TDs.  Senior RB Ashton Courvina had 13 carries for 93 yards and 1 TD.  Junior LB Carter Smith led Penns Manor’s defense with 13 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.  Penns Manor help a good Portage rushing attack to just over 150 yards total.  Penns Manor help Portage to just under 200 yards total offense.  You can read Greg Ricupero’s game recap here: Hill too much to climb for Mustangs!

This game will come down to how well the Northern Cambria’s defense can contain Penns Manor’s good skill players.  Penns Manor has plenty of offensive threats with Hill, Courvina, Smith, and Justin Marshall.  Marshall has been banged up the last two weeks.  When healthy Marshall is a big weapon for Penns Manor.  Northern Cambria will look for big plays in their passing game for this game from Bougher, Dolansky, Myers, and Dumm.
