2022 D6 AA Quarterfinal Game Preview: Bellwood-Antis @ Bald Eagle Area

The 2022 PIAA D6 Class AA football playoffs start this weekend.  The teams are looking to end their seasons with a trip to Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High Scholl for PIAA Championships.  The Championship will take place 12/9 @ 1pm.

In the 2021 D6 AA Championship, Richland beat Forest Hills 35-6.  Richland has won the last 4 D6 AA titles.  Richland also won in 2012, and has been D6 AA runner up 3 times.  Richland’s 5 D6 AA championships are 3rd most all time behind Tyrone(9) and Forest Hills (8).  Bishop Guilfoyle moved to AA this year after a very successful run in A.  Bishop Guilfoyle has 6 D6 A titles and made the D6 A Championship 9 times.  Bishop Guilfoyle has 4 PIAA A Titles (2014,2015,2016,2021) and was PIAA A runner up in 2019.  Bellwood-Antis has 5 D6 A Titles (1997,2004,2006,2007,2012) and 1 D6 AA Title (1988).  Bellwood-Antis was the runner up in D6 A-4 times and D6 AA-2 times.  Bald Eagle Area has made the D6 AAA finals 5 times and won 3 titles (1988,2018,2019).  Mount Union has been to the D6 AA championships 3 times and has never won.  Penns Valley, Southern Huntingdon, and West Shamokin have never been to a D6 championship.  Here are the seeds and season records for the 8 teams in the 2022 D6 AA tournament:

Let’s look at BEA v Bellwood-Antis

On 11/04 at 7pm #6 Bellwood-Antis will play @ #3 Bald Eagle Area in a D6 AA Quarterfinal game.  Bellwood-Antis finished the season 6-4 and finished 2nd in the Inter County League.  Bellwood-Antis lost to Penns Valley last week 42-0.  Bald Eagle Area finished the season 7-3 and finished 2nd in the Mountain Athletic Conference.  Bald Eagle Area beat Purchase Line 19-0 last week.

Bald Eagle Area is led on offense by Sophomore QB Carson Nagle, Senior RB Tre Greene, and Junior WR Kahale Burns.  Nagle, as a sophomore, has already passed for over 4,000 yards so far for his career.  This season, Nagle has passed 164-251 for 2,139 yards with 22 TDs and 11 INTs.  Greene has rushed 89 times for 766 yards (8.6 average) and 8 TDs.  Burns has 54 receptions for 746 yards and 7 TDs.  Bald Eagle Area has averaged 30 points per game and has outscored their opponents 306-107.  Bald Eagle Area is led on defense by Senior MLB Tre Greene, Junior Camron Watkins, and Junior DT Alex Lefebvre.  Greene has 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 2 INTs.  Watkins leads the team with 9.5 sacks and 42 tackles.  Lefebvre has 6.5 sacks and 45 tackles.  Junior K Kaden Burns has made 35-38 PATs and 3-4 FGs with a long of 33 yards.  Bald Eagle Area has only allowed an average of 10 points per game.

Bellwood-Antis is led on offense by Senior QB Gaven Ridgway, Senior RB Nick Kost, and Senior WR Dylan Andrews.  Ridgway has passed 51-138 for 774 yards with 10 TDs and 10 INTs and rushed 133 times for 832 yards and 10 TDs.  Kost has rushed 116 times for 621 yards and 8 TDs.  Andrews has 18 receptions for 360 yards and 4 TDs.  Bellwood-Antis has averaged 26 points per game and has outscored their opponents 264-187.  On defense, Bellwood-Antis is led by Junior MLB Jordan Hescox, Senior MLB Ethan Norris, and Senior Andrew Nycum.  Hescox has 76 tackles.  Norris has 63 tackles.  Nycum has 62 tackles and 2 sacks.

The winner of this game will play in the D6 AA Semifinals against the winner of the Penns Valley/Mount Union game. That preview found HERE


The Class AA D6 Tournament consists of 8 teams.  The quarterfinal round is 11/04, the semifinals are 11/11, and the D6 AA Championship will be held at Mansion Park on 11/18 at 7pm.  The 2022 D6 AA Champion will move on to play the D4 Champion on either 11/25 or 11/26 in the PIAA AA State Quarterfinals.
