When we talk about PA recruits, not many sit higher than Bald Eagle Area quarterback Carson Nagle. With division one offers starting to roll in, Nagle was in the drivers seat on his recruiting journey. There was one thing holding him back. Dan Mulrooney. When Mulrooney took over the Lock Haven program, he intended to build a winner. His goal is a national title at Lock Haven. He’s got it going in the right direction. The Bald Eagles went from 1-10 in 2022 to 5-6 last season. He had a strong recruiting class for 2024, and now it appears he’s landed what might be the biggest recruit in decades for Lock Haven. Mulrooney has had the “full court press” on Nagle since he first saw him. According to his father, Jesse, from the day they first met Mulrooney has been coming hard after his son. “The first time we visited Coach Mulrooney shook his hand and told him he’s gonna help lead him to a national title”.
And so the current Bald Eagle, Nagle, chose to commit to the LHU Bald Eagles before his senior season began. The incoming senior is poised to destroy most if not all of BEA’s quarterback records. He’s already broken a few. Nagle completed 277 of 390 passes (71%) in 2023 for 3,569 yards (254.9 per game) and 38 touchdowns. He averaged 19 completions per game, 12.9 yards per throw and two touchdown throws per game with just 5 interceptions thrown all season. He also ran for two touchdowns. Nagle broke the Bald Eagle single-season passing yards and touchdown passes records while amassing the career passing yards mark of 8,276 and career touchdown passes (83).
Why LHU over what could be several D1 schools? “The ability to stay close to home” said Carson. “Plus I like everything about the school. The team, the coaching staff. I get to step in and help coach Mulrooney continue to build a winning program. I believe I can help. Coach Mulrooney has texted me non-stop since I texted him with my decision. He’s seems really fired up”.
As far as playing in the PSAC, Nagle says it is the best D2 football played in the country. “I’m going to be playing against D1 kids that came down through the portal. It’s a just a good fit”.
“The PSAC is tough football, maybe some of the toughest in the country” said his dad and head coach Jesse Nagle. “I’m so proud of him. He had a lot of options and since day one he’s been selective who he went to visit and mature about this whole process. He didn’t want to waste any coaches time. I left it up to him. Mulrooney shook his hand and told him he’s gonna lead him to a national title.
Nagle does have another goal before he heads to a new Eagles nest. “We came so close to winning a state title last year. I think we have just as good a shot this year as we did last year”.
