Facing fourth and one at the Red Raider one yard line and trailing 14-0, Clearfield quarterback Oliver Billote never got the snap from center. Bellefonte took over and marched 99 yards to take a 21-0 lead. “That might have been the difference in the game, it’s tough when that happens but that’s football” said Clearfield Head Coach Tim Janocko. “We get in there, it’s 14-7, but we didn’t”. The Red Raiders broke a third quarter 21-21 tie and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the District 6/9 Title by the score of 35-21. Running back CJ Funk carried the ball 17 time for 187 yard and this fourth quarter 16 yard td run, bulling over a defender at the goal line:

Down 21-0 in the second quarter, the Bison didn’t give up. After the Bellefonte score made it 21-0, Clearfield got the ball on their 49. Ten plays later Brett Zattoni scored from the 2 making it 21-7 with 4:34 left in the first half. On Bellefontes next drive, Bellefonte quarterback Ethan Rossman’s pass was intercepted giving Clearfield the ball at the Bellefonte 40. Billote then found Karson Kline for the 16 yard td, pulling the Bison within 7 with just 43 seconds left in the half.

“They’re a tough team, I give Clearfield a lot of credit. I thought we played good defense in the second half and I’ll be honest with you, not playing football two of the last three weeks was really hard. You can’t mimic playing football. We didn’t play our best football but we found a way to win” said Bellefonte Head Coach Shannon Manning. And he was right, it wasn’t easy. Neither team scored on their first possessions of the second half but Clearfield capitalized when, facing a f

ourth down and punting from the Bellefonte 35, a defender hit the defenseless center giving the Bison new life at the 20. Billote hit Nick Domico for a 16 yard scoring play to tie the game at 21 with 3:45 left in the third quarter.

It was all Red Raiders in the fourth quarter. The Bellefonte defense stiffened and the offense fed off the momentum. Funk’s 16 yard score then Rossman finding the endzone with an 11 yard run sealed the win for Bellefonte.

Clearfield finishes the season at 9-3 while Bellefonte will face Cathedral Prep, a 42-6 winner over University Prep, at a site TBD.
