It didn’t take long for the Marauders to set the pace. BG took the opening possession 50 yards in 6 plays to start the scoring, a short td run by Hamilton Gates and they never looked back. “Our line was giving me time today. Our line has been playing good for weeks, I haven’t been sacked in a while and our playmakers are making the plays” said Marauder quarterback Chase Kissell. Kissell finished the game with 266 yards and three td passes and ran for another.
Following the opening drive, Bellwood got a nice return by Griffin Kyle to the BG 40. They managed to get to the 21 but four consecutive plays for loss gave BG the ball back on the 35. The Blue Devil defense stiffened for 2 plays but Kissell hit Braden Reilly for a 20 yard gain then he found his go to, Gates, for a 49 yard td connection to put BG up 14-0 with 2:05 left in the first quarter. Gates caught the ball at the 20 then wrestled away from a Bellwood defender to get into the endzone.

The ensuing kick was a short kick and it was recovered by BG. It took just two plays to put the Marauders up 21-0. Kissell hit Tyson Lestochi for a 1 yard td. Bellwood fought hard and had their best drive of the night after the Lestochi score. Starting on their own 14 after a penalty on the kick return, the veteran Blue Devil line punched holes in the BG defense allowing several runners to move the ball in small chunks all the way to the BG 6. “Oh that’s a good team, they have a big line, five returning starters and they run the ball well” said BG head coach Justin Wheeler. Unfortunately for Bellwood, they didn’t fare well on the pass. Taurean Consiglio stepped in front of a Holden Schreier pass and nearly had a pick 6 but a penalty on the return set the ball at the 45. Three plays later Kissell hit Reilly for a 34 yard td to put the Marauders up 28-0 going into halftime.

Bellwood started the second half with the ball on their 25. After gaining a first down, the Blue Devils found themselves with a fourth and 0ne on their 48. They line up to go for the first down and Schreier hit Ethan Shawley with a jump pass over the middle. Shawley took off for a 52 yard td for the Blue Devils. They missed the point after try keeping the score at 28-6 with 8:48 left in the third quarter. “They just lull you to sleep with those short runs. We talked about that all week, don’t give up the pop pass. And as soon as it was over our guy came over and said “I gave up the pop pass””.

The teams then traded interceptions on the next two possessions, but it was BG that won the field position battle there and, getting the ball on the Bellwood 12, took two plays to get into the endzone with an 11 yard run by Consiglio. The Marauders put the game away with a 6 yard td from Kissell to Reilly. Bellwood scored one more time with a 7 yard td run by Colin Gibbons.
Bishop Guilfoyle, 7-0, will face Chestnut Ridge next Friday and Bellwood-Antis doesn’t get a break. They’ll host 7-0 Penn Cambria.
