In the second of two LHAC vs Heritage Conference District 6 Championship Matchups this weekend the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders defeated the Northern Cambria Colts 42-18. Bishop Guilfoyle who returned to Single A this year was a big favorite coming into the game. The Colts knew they would have to play a nearly perfect game to win. They played the Marauders tough for a two about quarters before the Marauders started to pull away. I expected a battle between two of the states top quarterbacks in Ty Dumm and Chase Kissel. Instead Hamilton Gates would have the big game.

Bishop Guilfoyle got the ball first and took eight plays to go sixty five yards for a touchdown. Most of the damage was on the ground with one long Kissel to Gates pass thrown in. The Marauders led 7-0.

The Colts would then go on the longest drive I have seen this year. The drive was only 66 yards but took 12 minutes and ten seconds. That’s over a quarter in length. The Colts converted four third downs on the drive. They kept the ball from the Marauders lethal offense. One problem, they didn’t finish the drive.

They were stopped on fourth and goal. Ty Dumm was incredible on the drive. He ran the ball almost every play, taking a beating. When he wasn’t running he was hitting short passes. Daniel Farrell had three receptions on the drive.

The Marauders would then go on a 98 yard, six minute drive and score again. The big play was a 33 yard Kissel to Gates pass. Taurean Consiglio plowed in from two yards out. It was 14-0.

The Colts were down two scores and had less than two minutes to go in the half.

Dumm would lead a 70 yard touchdown drive mainly through the air and cap it on a one yard run. The snap on the PAT was high and the conversion failed.

The Marauders had the wind and decided to try and get in field goal range. Dumm intercepted the Kissel pass. The teams went to the lockers with the score 14-6 BG.

The Colts had to feel good only down eight and getting the ball first. However they went backwards and had to punt. Again it was Gates who fielded the low liner and raced 52 yards for a touchdown. The Marauders were up 21-6.

The Colts never quit. They would go 80 yards in three and a half minutes. Dumm hit Farrell on a short pass and he raced 80 yards before being tackled from behind. Sounds like a touchdown? However on first down the Colts had loss six yards. It took the Colts several tries to score but they did when Dumm threw a Montana to Clark touchdown to Reese Wagner. But they did when Colts were stopped again on the conversion. It was 21-12 with a quarter and a half to go.

Thats when the Colts ran out of gas. Bishop Guilfoyle would score touchdowns on three straight drives covering 62, 50 and 36 yards. Meanwhile the Colts would pick up only one first down and have two very poor punts. Dumm would throw a late touchdown pass to Farrell to put the final at 42-18. Bishop Guilfoyle will play Westinghouse next week. The Colts great season came to an end.
