Penns Manor Comets vs Blairsville Bobcats @ Ernie Widmar Field at Memorial Stadium

Last Meeting: 8/23/19 Penns Manor 16-14

The high school football season has arrived finally in Pennsylvania. It was delayed two weeks and attendance was limited but it has arrived. The game was a very good high school football game that went back and forth. However something was missing. It just wasn’t the same without fans. The game needs the fans to be great. The parents deserve to see their kids play. The students deserve to see their classmates play. We are deserve to spent our Friday nights doing what we love, watching high school football.

PM received the kickoff and fumbled on their first play from scrimmage. Two plays later senior fullback Conner Keith ran 53:yards for a touchdown. The conversion was blocked and the Comets led 6-0 less than two minutes into the game. Blairsville would answer back on its first possession as senior quarterback Zak Artley hit Hank Skirboll for a 47 yard TD pass. The kick was good and the Bobcats led 7-6 with less then four minutes gone. PM went right down the field on its second possession also as Ashton Courvina scored on a TD run. The drive took less then three minutes. Max Hill’s pass to Dimetri Lieb added the two and the Comets led 14-7. The Bobcats punted and the first quarter ended.

The scoring continued in the second quarter. Zak Artley connected with Hank Skirboll for their second TD of the game on a short crossing pattern tying the game at 14-14 with 8:13 remaining in the second. Both teams blew chances to score before Blairsville drove inside the Comet 5 yard just before the half. On 4th down they kicked a field goal and led 17-14 with 14 seconds to go in the half. The Comets ran the kickoff back to the Bobcat 11 yard line with just  .4 seconds remanding on the clock. The Comets called timeout and elected to throw one up in the end zone. Max Hill’s TD pass and the two point conversion made it 22-17 at the half.

The third quarter saw both teams trying to establish their offenses again. The Bobcats throwing the ball around and the Comets trying to pound the rock. Neither team was able to score and the third period ended the way it started.

The Bobcats seemed to have the ball the entire 4th quarter which would normally equal a victory . However three interceptions deep in Comet territory cost Blairsville the game. Ashton Courvina’s second TD of the game a pick six finished the scoring. However an unbelievable amount of penalties on the Comets kept giving the Bobcats chance after chance. PM’s defense took the ball away every time. Both teams should be able to build on this one.
