The four teams left in D6 AA are #1 Richland (11-0), #2 Penns Valley (9-2), #3 Bald Eagle Area (8-3), and #4 Bishop Guilfoyle (8-3).  The semifinal matchups are Bishop Guilfoyle @ Richland and Bald Eagle Area @ Penns Valley.  The Richland and Bishop Guilfoyle matchup features returning D6 champions (BG was single A last year).  Bishop Guilfoyle is also the returning class A state champion.  Richland is ranked #6 in the state.  Richland has beat two state ranked AAA teams this year; Penn Cambria (#7) and Central (#10).  Check out the rest of the rankings here: PFN Rankings .  The Penns Valley and Bald Eagle Area game is a rematch from a 9/16 game @ Bald Eagle Area.  Bald Eagle Area won that game 42-27.

Bishop Guilfoyle @ Richland

Last Friday, Richland beat West Shamokin 48-6 at home.  Richland jumped all over West Shamokin early scoring 42 points in the first half.  Senior QB Sam Penna went 5-12 for 160 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT through the air and rushed 3 times for 61 yards.  Junior RB Evan McCracken rushed 10 times for 127 yards and 2 TDs.  Sophomore WR Austin Yarnick had 2 receptions for 125 yards and 2 TDs.

Bishop Guilfoyle beat Southern Huntingdon 54-14 last week.  Bishop Guilfoyle also jumped all over their opponent early.  Jumping out to a 41-0 lead at the half.  Senior QB Karson Kiesewetter, who was the Class A PIAA player of the year last year, went 4-5 for 48 yards and 1 TD passing and rushed 8 times for 93 yards and 3 TDs.  Senior RB Cooper Rother rushed 10 times for 130 yards and 1 TD.  Check out Billy Splain’s game recap here: Return of Kiesewetter inspires BG .

This game should be one of the best in the state for week 2 of the playoffs.  These two teams have plenty of playoff experience, with both teams going deep into the playoffs the past few years.  Bishop Guilfoyle won class A state title last year, and Richland lost to eventual state AA champion Southern Columbia in the state quarterfinals last year.  Richland and Bishop Guilfoyle didn’t play in the regular season but they played some similar opponents.  Richland beat the 3 teams that Bishop Guilfoyle lost to, but all the games were one score games.  The only exception is Bishop Guilfoyle’s loss to Bedford 18-7.  Bishop Guilfoyle was without standout QB Kiesewetter in the Bedford game.
