When I saw the Trojans take the field Friday night, I counted. There were four spare helmet wearers. By halftime, there were three and two players limping on the field. Yet the Trojans battled.
“Due to a combination of injuries and a significantly depleted roster, Mount Union Varsity Football will not compete in the remaining games of the 2025 season. This difficult decision was made with the health and safety of our student-athletes as our top priority. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and commitment shown by our players and coaching staff this year. Thank you to our families, fans, and community for your unwavering support. We look forward to returning stronger next season.” That was the statement released tonight by Mt. Union head coach Jamie Brumbaugh.
When Nazir went down with a leg injury before the first half ended last week in the battle with Claysburg-Kimmel, coach Brumbaugh and the players kinda knew what was going to happen next. “We were already down, we haven’t had a head on practice since the second week of the season”. We had trainers come in today to evaluate. It was the toughest on Friday after the game. We had a long talk with the kids and we left it at today. We played the shuffle around game so many times this year. Just Friday night we had several kids playing positions they never played but they’re warriors and they battled to the end” said Brumbaugh.
It hasn’t been determined but this Fridays opponent, Meyersdale, will likely receive a forfeit win and the Trojans will finish an extremely respectable 7-3.
We at PFN wish them the best and we hope to see every underclassman return next year. Great season guys! You truly were TROJAN WARRIORS!
