
Penn Cambria Defeats McCort-Carroll to Remain Undefeated

Penn Cambria was host to Bishop McCort tonight in a key Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference matchup. Penn Cambria is looking for an LHAC title and to continue their winning ways as we edge closer to the playoffs. Bishop McCort-Carroll finds itself battling for a playoff spot in District 6 2A. On a cold October night it was Penn Cambria that came out on top with Gavin Harrold scoring 3 touchdowns to lead them to their ninth straight win.
Penn Cambria received the ball to start the game and after a Brady Jones five yard rush to start the game, Penn Cambria lost four yards after a sack by Bishop McCort-Carroll. On third down Jones threw incomplete which lead to a punt by Penn Cambria. McCort-Carroll couldn’t get much going to their first drive to start the game, a sack by Jack Eckenrode of Penn Cambria lead to 3rd and 17, and on fourth down McCort-Carroll was forced to punt. Penn Cambria took over at the Crushers 48 yard line with 7:11 left in the first quarter. On fourth and one Gavin Harrold gained 3 to set up another Panthers first down with 5:31 left in the first quarter. With 4:11 left, Gavin Harrold gets Penn Cambria on the board and a successful two point conversion made it 8-0 Penn Cambria. McCort-Carroll struggled to complete any passing attempts leading to another punt, McCort-Carroll pinned Penn Cambria at their own 16 with 1:39 left in the first. Penn Cambria was not able to get anything going and punted the ball back to McCort to open the second quarter
McCort-Carroll opened the second quarter at the Penn Cambria 41. Penn Cambria kept the McCort-Carroll offense quiet. On fourth down, the snap to the punter was botched, yet somehow McCort-Carroll’s punter was able to turn it into a first down. Angelo Gallucci continued throughout the first half to struggle to complete any passes which killed the McCort-Carroll offense and lead to another punt by the Crushers. With 9:10 left in the second quarter Penn Cambria was pinned at their own 13, their offense stalled out and they were forced to punt the ball back to McCort-Carroll with 7:25 left in the second quarter, McCort-Carroll took over at the Penn Cambria 37 yard line. Angelo Gallucci gained 9 yards on two rushes and McCort-Carroll successfully converted a fourth and one opportunity. Incomplete passes continued to kill any momentum that they had though and Penn Cambria took over at their own 23 yard line with 4:16 in the second quarter. After a completed pass to Gavin Harrold for a first down, Brady Jones fumbled the ball away and McCort-Carroll recovered. McCort-Carroll drove down the field and set themselves up for a field goal before the half but Avery Connor missed and it remain 8-0 Penn Cambria going into halftime.
McCort-Carroll Crushers took the kickoff to their own 30 yard line to start the third quarter, and with 10:55 remaining Angelo Gallucci completed a pass to Garrett Farabaugh for a Crushers touch down, after a failed two point conversion the score was 8-6 Penn Cambria. Penn Cambria quickly answered back as Gavin Harrold scored on a rushing touchdown with 8:19 on the clock in the third quarter, after a successful 2 point conversion it was 16-6 Penn Cambria. The McCort-Carroll offense would continue to scuffle and struggle to put together any real successful drive. Penn Cambria added on in the third with Gavin Harrold’s third touchdown of the night, and a successful two point conversion extended the Panthers lead to 24-6.
McCort-Carroll would remain unable to score against the Penn Cambria defense. After the Harrold touchdown late in the third McCort-Carroll would have their drive stopped by a Mason Mento sack that caused a loss of 7 for the Crushers. The Penn Cambria Panthers would fumble the ball away at the McCort 7 yard line with 7:14 left in the fourth quarter, McCort-Carroll would recover. McCort-Carroll would successfully convert on a fourth and four, and proceed to gain 23, the next play Angelo Gallucci would rush for ten, setting up first down on the Panthers 13. Gallucci would score late in the fourth to cut the Panthers lead to 12, Penn Cambria would go on to win 24-12.
Penn Cambria improves to 9-0 for the first time since 1989, while Bishop McCort-Carroll falls to 5-4
