Penn State Welcomes in Bowling Green for Home Opener

After a convincing 34-12 win over West Virginia, Penn State returns to Beaver Stadium for the first time in 2024.

Trailing just the Big House in Ann Arbor, Beaver Stadium is the 2nd-largest stadium in the country, and 4th-largest in the world. Every year Beaver Stadium ranks amongst the elite in terms of toughest places to play in College Football. Memorable moments like Grant Haley’s blocked kick returned for a TD, or Michigan forced to call a timeout on the opening snap have made Beaver Stadium notorious for electric atmospheres any given Saturday, this weekend should be no different.

Last week in Morgantown, Drew Allar was uber-efficient, going 11/17 for over 200 yards and 3TDs, giving him a TD% of 17.6%. To put that into perspective, even the greatest College QBs of last year didn’t even sniff that mark in 2023. Bowling Green was a top 5 passing defense in the MId American Conference (MAC) last year, we will see if Allar can continue to flex his muscles on Saturday.

The RB room did wonders last weekend, and are primed to feast once again against Bowling Green. With the weather forecast calling for rain all day, expect Singleton and Allen to handle a majority of the offensive workload.

Harrison Wallace dominated WVU, going for over 100 yards and snagging 2TDs. Bowling Green has a good pass defense as alluded to prior, but Wallace should be able to create separation, although in treacherous conditions.

For the defense, this is a match made in heaven. Non Power 4 school, dreary, damp weather, and a top notch defensive unit. Expect PSU to overload the box, sending 7, 8 or even 9 at times to combat Bowling Green’s running game.

Bowling Green did look impressive, albeit against a non FBS Fordham team. Although this is their first road test, it is not their only. BGSU travels to Kyle Field in 2 weeks to take on Texas A&M, we will see how they fare going into two of the most hostile environments in College Football. RB Terrion Stewart will most likely be the main focus for Bowling Green. In their opener, he ran for over 150 yards and found the endzone three times.

If you are making the trip to Beaver Stadium, bring a poncho, umbrella, coat, or something to keep yourself dry.
