Penns Valley whacks Philipsburg in Conference game 40-14.

Penns Valley won the opening coin toss and elected to receiving, taking the ball on their own 37 yard line. Two plays later, Jackson Romig found a wide open Miles Brooks on a crossing pattern for a 57 yard Penns Valley touchdown. The extra point by Cole Felker was good, with 13:13 remaining in the 1st quarter, it was Penns Valley 7 Philipsburg 0. Philipsburg was unable to move the ball on their first possession, punting away to Penns Valley. That would end the 1st quarter of play.

Taking the ball again on their own 37 yard line, Romig, having two big pass plays, had the ball set up on the 7 yard line. He would find a wide open Miles Brooks once again for a 7 yard touchdown play, extra point was no good, with 5:47 left in the 1st quarter, Penns Valley extended their lead to 13-0. Philipsburg and Penns Valley would exchange punts on their next possessions. The Mounties would take the ball on 5 yard line, unable to put a scoring drive on would be forced to punt the ball away.

Penns Valley got the ball on the 37 yard line. Two plays later Ty Watson took the hand off and he raced down the field on a 62 yard touchdown run from scrimmage. The extra point was blocked, with 8:06 left in the half, Penns Valley leads 19-0. After forcing another P-O punt, The Rams moved the ball down the field once again, with Jackson Romig finding John Meyers on a crossing pattern for a Penns Valley touchdown of 25 yards. The extra point by Cole Felker was good, with 5:14 left in the half, Penns Valley 26 Philipsburg 0.

Then disaster struck for Philipsburg. Dayton Barger would lose the ball, with Penns Valley recovering on the 15 yard line. A few plays later, Penns Valley’s Tanner Ilgen scampered in from 1 yard out for another Penns Valley touchdown. Extra point by Ty Watson was good, with 38 seconds remaining in the half, the score was Penns Valley 33 Philipsburg 0. Philipsburg ran out the clock to end the first half, but would be receiving the second half kickoff. It didn’t get much better for them. Philipsburg would turn the ball over on downs after receiving the kickoff to start the 3rd quarter. Two quick pass plays by Penns Valley’s Romig setup a 2 yard run from Tanner Ilgen for a touchdown. Extra point was good from Ty Watson, with 7:56 left in the 3rd quarter, Penns Valley extended their lead to 40-0.

Putting together a pretty impressive drive, the Mounties would march the ball down the field to the Penns Valley 33 yard line. Ben Gustkey found Nick Johnson wide open for a 33 yard touchdown. The extra point by Parker Matson was good, with 3:25 left in the 3rd quarter, it was Penns Valley 40 Philipsburg 7. Penns Valley’s next drive would get stalled on the 7 yard line turning the ball over on downs. The Mounties were’nt done yet taking the ball down the field with Andrew Faust scoring from 4 yards out on a handoff. Extra point by Carson Long was good, with 4:46 left in the game, Penns Valley’s lead was cut to 40-14.

Both teams will end their regular seasons next week, with Penns Valley at home, with Glendale High School and Philipsburg will travel to Ridgeway High School.
