Rams put up a fight, but it’s BG who will move on

Thanks to a 75 yard scoop and score by Penns Valley’s Danin Kerstetter, the Rams were withing a touchdown of the Marauders at halftime, trailing 28-21. But the second half of the game was all BG as they went on to a 56-35 win and win their first District 6 class 2A title since 1987.

Cooper Rother got the scoring moving in the first quarter with a one yard run, followed by a 1 yard run by Kaden Wyandt to put BG up 14-0.

Penns Valley fought back in typical Ram fashion, with Miles Brooks hauling in a 52 yard td pass from Jackson Romig. Following a 2 yard td run by Karson Kiesewetter, Romig avoided disaster when his pass was nearly picked off but the collision by two Mauraders sent the ball into the air. John Myer grabbed the ball and finished the play with a 66 yard td reception to make it a 21-14 game.

Rother scored again, then came the scoop and score.

Bg took the second half kick and rolled away from there with Kiesewetter scoring three more times.

Penns Valley’s season ends at a respectable 10-3 record. These two teams will meet again next year in the regular season as the Rams have, along with the rest of the Mt. League, joined the LHAC, home of the Marauders.

Bishop Guilfoyle will face Southern Columbia, who throttled Mt Carmel, in the quarterfinal round. It’s a rare, but this year not too rare, occurrance when two defending champs play each other in the playoffs.
