Richland Shuts Down Huntingdon

Richland–The Richland Rams used a strong defense and ariel attack to defeat Huntingdon 50-7 last night.
After a missed field goal by the Rams kicker Noah Ritko. The Rams defense pinned the Bearcat offense back at their own 4-yard line. Then, Joe Penna raced through the line to block the Evan Edmiston punt and recovered it in the end zone to give the Rams a 7-0 lead with 5:18 to go in the first quarter.
Defense was an on-going theme for the Richland all night long as the Rams defenders limited the Bearcat offense to minus 44 yards rushing and 41 total yards on the evening.
With 8 seconds to go in the first quarter, QB Grayson Mahla finally got the passing game going as he connected on a 54-yard TD pass to Jude Mugerwa. A two-point conversion made the score 15-0 in favor of the Rams. Jude Mugerwa and his brother Arnold combined for 4 catches, 188 yards and 2 TDs in the game.
The second quarter was much the same for the Rams as they limited the Bearcats to 3 possessions of negative yardage. With a little over two minutes to go in the half, a bad snap by the Huntingdon long snapper sailed over the head of Edmiston resulting in a 23-yard loss. Moments later, Mahla scored on a 3-yard TD run to make the score 22-0 at the half.
After a Ram drive stalled on 4th down, Huntingdon sustained their best offensive drive to that point in the game reaching the Ram 4-yard line. Richland linebacker Cody Yeager intercepted an Elliott Guisler pass in the end zone and returned it to the 4-yard line. Mahla and the Ram offense didn’t take long as the Ram QB hit Arnold Murgerwa with a strike in the middle of the field and the receiver did the rest capping off a 96-yard TD play to make the score 29-0 with 5:42 left in the game.
A Jamier Christian 24-yard touchdown run, and a Mason Davis 11-yard touchdown run capped the scoring for Richland in the 4th quarter.
The Bearcats finally got on the board late in the 4th quarter as Guisler found Eric Mykut for a 27-yard touchdown pass to make the final score 50-7 in favor of Richland.
GAME NOTES
Huntingdon–The Bearcat offense struggled all night long. Freshman Cole Lane led all Bearcat rushers with 29 yards on 6 carries. Guisler finished 8 of 17 for 85 yards, 1 Int and 1 TD. Mykut was the leading receiver with 4 grabs for 9 yards including the 27-yard TD. 3 of his catches were for negative yards. The Bearcats had three bad snaps that resulted in 53 negative yards.
Richland–Mahla finished the night 6 of 17 for 209 yards and TD’s. Christian led the rushing attack with 39 yards and 1 TD as the Rams amassed 144 yards on the ground and 365 yards in total offense.
