STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — In a rematch of the 2021 Class 6A District 6 Championship thriller that saw State College win 17-14, this game did not have quite as much drama as the Little Lions steamrolled Williamsport by a final score of 42-14.

After back-to-back three and outs by each offense to start the game, State College sophomore Ty Salazer picked off Williamsport’s Caleb Williamson inside the Millionaires ten yard line to give the Little Lions excellent starting field position, and Senior RB John Scott capitalized with a seven yard run.

That would just be the beginning for the State College rushing attack, as Freshman D’Antae Sheffey scored his first varsity touchdown on a 58-yard run to the left side to extend that lead to 14-0 on the next drive.

“I think physically upfront we did a great job, Finn Furmanek managed the game really well at the quarterback spot, and a couple guys made some big plays there in the backfield,” State College Head Coach Matt Lintal said. “It’s nice seeing a freshman out there lighting it up a little bit in RB D’Antae Sheffey, J-Dub (John Scott) getting some touchdowns, and Donte Nastasi making some big plays with special teams, defense, and on offense.

After a huge punt return from Nastasi down to the Williamsport 13 yard line, John Scott took the first play into the endzone for his second touchdown to break it open even more for a 21-0 lead.

There were a lot of things that the State College Little Lions did well in this one, but making big plays and capitalizing on those plays was what stood out the most.

“You get a big turnover there early in the game, you get a big punt return from Donte, and to be able to capitalize and get touchdowns out of those opportunities is huge,” Lintal said. “We missed out on a touchdown there that first series of the game, so we wanted to make sure that we were putting the ball in the end zone. When you get down there in the red zone you have to score, you can’t leave those points off the board.”

The arm of Senior QB Finn Furmanek wasn’t needed much in this game due to the strong rushing attack, but he still connected with Donte Nastasi for a 23-yard touchdown to put State College up 28-0 in the second quarter.

D’Antae Sheffey would add another rushing touchdown on a dazzling 21-yard run, and the floodgates were open.

State College led 42-0 heading into halftime after Senior Matt Wall punched in the sixth touchdown of the half for the Little Lions.

With a running clock and a score out of hand, the State College offense didn’t put up any points in the second half. Williamsport added a pair of passing touchdowns for Caleb Williamson to get some points on the board for the Millionaires.

State College takes this one by a final score of 42-14, and will travel to Downingtown East High School in Chester County to take on the Cougars next Friday night. These two teams met in 2021 with Downingtown East taking that game 42-21 in State College, and this will be a great test of the Little Lions’ physi

cality as they look to get revenge.
