Trevor Beck returns Interception

State College Area High School had a rough Homecoming game last week against Central Dauphin being Handed there first loss of the season. But this week It was an extremely different story, as State High rolls past Altoona 48-0.

This game was notably very cold, at kick off the Mansion Park thermometer saying it was a balmy 46. But in the wind it felt much more like 35. Most of the players would stretch and attempt to keep warm on the side line. Other players wore sweatshirts (with hoods ripped of as to avoid the rules against such clothing) under there pads.

The game began with a State High kick sailing deep into Altoona territory, where the returner managed to get to the 21. Immediately on that first down Altoona would lose 5 yards. But then it seemed they may be driving down the field, that want the case however. After 2 Altoona first downs the Mountain Lions got stuffed by the State High defensive line; lead by stud tacklers Sam Storll and Kevin Kurzinger. State would force Altoona to punt from there own 48. State High would take immediate action having a few intermediate runs which set up Brady Dorner connecting with Isaiah Edwards on a 24 yard streak. With a good kick from Spitler, Putting State up 7-0 with 5:05 left in the First Quarter.

The Mountain Lions would receive the ball and get one first down before going three and out, punting to State from the 46. They did manage on that punt to pin State High on the 8, in which State would quickly work out of. State High would put together a nice drive beginning the second quarter. Making it all the way to the 7 before Brady Dorner would turn and hand one off to Dresyn Green, He took the hand off heading outside and straight into the end zone making State’s lead 14-0 after another Spitler kick. After a Mountain Lions 3 and out State once again had the ball this time on Altoona’s 24 yard line. After a few plays State was on the 10 looking to score again, Brady would toss a swing pass to Lokey Howell who would run and role over the entire secondary to score. Spitler was once again Gold making it 21-0 with 8:07 remaining in the first half.

Altoona would take time and attempt to put together a long drive, they did very well tiring the defense until there quarterback lobbed one into the end zone were Trevor Beck snatched it out of the air and ran it all the way to there own 48. State High would capitalize on this with Brady Dorner again throwing a streak to Isaiah Edwards this time for 27 yards. With a good kick from Spitler this Game was now 28-0 with 2:50 remaining in the half. Altoona began there drive on there own 26 and would get a first down right away setting them up on the 36. With little time remaining the Mountain Lions would try to take a shot down field before Dresyn would reach and grab a Pick… that he would take to the end zone. After a missed kick from Spitler the score was 34-0 with seconds remaining in the first half.

The temperature dropped 2-3 degrees at half making the chilly 35 degrees even colder at half. Additionally at half time the decision was made that Brady Dorner did not need to finish the game as he was 9 for 11 in the first half for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. This meant back up QB Conrad Moore went in. Conrad starts at Wide Receiver and has played a few snaps at Safety this year. Conrad is an outstanding Athlete holding the High Jump school record.

Immediately Conrad would piece together a nice drive to begin the third quarter. Unfortunately State High got held on the Altoona 30 before turning over on downs. A long but unsuccessful drive from Altoona,  State High would be set up on there own 21. State would quickly work down the field before on Altoona’s 24 yard line turning around and handing it to Dresyn once again who would find the end zone for his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night and 3rd total. After a good kick from Spitler it was 41-0 with 2:59 remaining in the third quarter. Which it would stay until the fourth quarter. With 9:10 left in the game Conrad took a QB run 35 yards in. With a good Extra point from Spitler making it 48-0. The rest of the game was uneventful as both teams were cold and wanted to go home.

Looking forward to next week is obviously very exciting as State (8-1) looks to take on Cumberland Valley (5-4) in Beaver Stadium at Noon next Saturday.
