Stingers fall to River Valley
BLAIRSVILLE- The Stingers faced off against the newly formed River Valley Panthers who were formerly Blairsville and Saltsburg high schools. The Stingers were ahead most of the game, but the Panthers ended up coming back and winning 34-28.
The Panthers were first to score on a run by senior running back Sincere Mcfarlin after a good punt return that started the Panthers drive on the 35-yard-line.
The Stingers were next on the board after senior defensive back TJ Lynn came up with the pick, giving the ball back to the Stingers; then, they would score after going for it twice on fourth down. The Stingers prevailed and senior running back Brady Tonkin took it in for the touchdown, and junior kicker Braden Reichenbach who was 4/4 on extra points booted it through making it 7- 7
RV scored on a 45-yard run by senior running back Angelo Bartolini, but the extra point was not good, making the score 13-7.
Marion Center would score on their next drive after going for it once again on fourth down and a one-handed grab by Lynn; the Stingers were ready to score, and Tonkin pushed through the pile and scored making it 14-13.
In the second half, River Valley received the ball, and they would score. They went for two and did not get it making it 21-19, but the Stingers would not be denied and would score on their next drive
The drive started on the thirty the Stingers would march to the end zone and senior quarterback Ty Ryen ran it in on the quarterback keeper now 21-19.
Stingers would then score again on their next drive after multiple runs down field they would go for it again on fourth down and it would result in a touchdown on a great play by Tonkin.
The Panthers would also score on their next drive on a pitch making it 28-26.
The Panthers would again score after two big plays to Bartolini, and they would take the lead 34-28, after going for two.
The Stingers move on to two and one and are back at home to take on the also two and one Purchase Line Red Dragons.
