The Penns Valley Rams improve to 3-1 on the year with a huge 41-21 victory over the Central Dragons. Rams senior quarterback Aaron Tobias continues to shred apart defenses accumulating 317 yards passing and 6 touchdowns on the night. This now gives Tobias over a thousand yards passing with 24 touchdown passes in 4 games. Another key player in the game was senior Austin Fisher. Fisher had 2 touchdown receptions along with 3 sacks, one which resulted in a fumble.  Junior receivers Gage and Stephen Ripka also had a big night as both players hauled in 2 touchdowns each.

Tonight’s game began with the Rams receiving the ball and driving it right down the field for an opening-drive touchdown. The drive almost resulted in a huge turnover for the Rams but was overturned due to a penalty. To cap off the drive Tobias hit junior Gage Ripka for an 8-yard touchdown with 7:19 to go in the first quarter making the score 6-0 Rams. Ripka nailed the Point after attempt (PAT) making the score 7-0.

The Dragons were quick to respond as they put their own drive together capped off with a 2-yard touchdown by freshman Jeff Hoenstine. The score made it 7-6 and the PAT was good, making the score tied 7-7 with 1:26 to go in the first quarter.

A few plays later the Rams found the endzone again this time Tobias found senior receiver Austin Fisher for a 15-yard touchdown with 1:03 to go in the first quarter making the score 13-7 Rams. Ripka’s PAT was blocked keeping the score 13-7. To open the second quarter the Dragons had the ball and Austin Fisher rushed the quarterback and got a sack but also forced a fumble. This was the first of Fisher’s three sacks on the night. The Rams recovered the ball at the Dragons 39 giving them prime field position.

Three plays later Tobias found Gage Ripka for a 10-yard touchdown with 10:22 to go in the second quarter making the score 19-7 after a failed two-point conversion. The second quarter after the score consisted of a lot of penalties and confusion. At one point play was stopped for over 5 minutes after a fumble was caused but then overturned and field position could not be decided.

The Dragons cut into the Rams lead late in the second quarter when on a 4th and 15 from the 32-yard line Hoenstine dropped back and threw the ball to a wide-open Dalton Metzger. This made the score 19-13 with 14 seconds to go in the half. Penns Valley attempted a field goal to close out the half from 30 yards out but came up short.

To begin the second half both teams appeared sluggish and there wasn’t much offense to be found. The first score of the half came when Tobias found Fisher this time from 15 yards out with 44 seconds to go in the third quarter making the score 25-14. Tobias ran in for the two-point conversion making the score 27-14 Rams.

The following Dragon drive senior defensive back Brennan Hyde intercepted the pass with 11:51 to go in the fourth quarter. The next play sophomore running back Tanner Ilgen took the ball 32 yards setting up the Rams at the Dragons 24-yard line. A few plays later Tobias found junior receiver Stephen Ripka for a 13-yard touchdown with 9:52 to go in the fourth quarter. Tobias again converted for a two-point conversion giving the Rams a 35-14 lead.

The next Dragon possession resulted in another interception, this time Stephen Ripka stepped in front and took the ball to the 21-yard line. The very next play Tobias hit Ripka for his 6th touchdown pass of the night. Tobias’s touchdown gave the Rams a 41-14 lead with 8:52 to go in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons closed out the game with a touchdown drive capped off when Senior quarterback Braden Kitt found junior receiver Hunter Klotz for a 15-yard touchdown with 3:59 to go in the game. The PAT was good making the final score 41-21 Rams. Penns Valley will travel to Huntington next Friday as the Central Dragons will travel to Bald Eagle.
