The Penns Valley Rams celebrated Senior night Friday but couldn’t celebrate long as the Tyrone Golden Eagles spoiled it with a 27-21 victory. The Eagles and Rams both showed plenty of offense on the night. Eagles Senior quarterback Brandon Lucas finished the game with 200 yards passing and a touchdown. Senior receiver Damon Gripp would catch 11 passes for 134 yards and the game-sealing touchdown. Along with Gripp and Lucas Senior running back Tommy Hicks finished with 83 yards of total yards and two touchdowns. For the Rams Senior receiver, Gage Ripka would account for three of the Rams touchdowns including a huge 95-yard kick return touchdown.

Tonight’s game started with two three and outs by both teams and on the Eagles, second possession of the game on a third-down from the 17-yard line Rams Sophomore linebacker Kollin Brungart sacked the quarterback forcing a punt. The punt attempt was blocked by Junior Tanner Ilgen and recovered by Gage Ripka for the Penns Valley touchdown. The point-after attempt was good from kicker Gage Ripka making the score 7-0 with 3:14 to go in the first quarter. The following possession the Eagles drove the ball 51 yards in 7 plays. The drive was capped off with a 17-yard touchdown from Eagles Senior quarterback Brandon Lucas to Junior Keegan Gwinn. The point-after attempt by Senior Kendall Markley was good, tying the score at seven with just 49 seconds left in the first quarter.

To start the second quarter the Rams had possession and used 10 plays to drive down the field to the Eagles 26-yard line before turning the ball over on downs. On a fourth and six from the 26-yard line, Brinker was sacked and the Eagles took over on the 31-yard line. The Eagles wouldn’t waste time on this possession, taking the ball down into Rams territory and capping it off with a two-yard touchdown, Hicks first touchdown of the night. The point-after attempt was blocked making the score 13-7 with 6:02 in the second quarter. The following kickoff the Rams fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered at the 22-yard line. The Eagles got down to the goal line but the Rams tough defense held and got the ball back after a failed fourth and goal attempt. Neither team would find the endzone the rest of the half making the halftime score 13-7 Eagles.

The second half began and neither team could find a rhythm. The Rams got close to the end zone near the end of the third quarter but failed to convert on a fourth and six from the 11-yard line. Again the Rams defense held the Eagles offense and on a third and eight from the 13-yard line the defensive lineman Ben Sharer and John Aston forced a big sack giving the Rams the ball back with 2:01 left to go in the third quarter. To open the fourth quarter the Rams had the ball and Senior running back Seth Baney took the ball 11 yards down to the five-yard line. Three plays later Brinker would find Gage Ripka for his second touchdown of the night from five yards out. The point-after attempt by Ripka was good, making the score 14-13 Rams. The Eagles would score again on their next drive. Hicks would score his second touchdown of the night this time from one yard out. The two-point conversion was good making the score 21-14 Eagles. The very next play Gage Ripka would take the kickoff 95 yards to the house. The point-after attempt by Ripka was good, tying the score at 21 with 5:37 to go in the fourth quarter. The following Eagles possession ended when Senior Mason Lieb intercepted Lucas at the 43-yard line. The Rams offense couldn’t convert and were forced to punt. The Eagles put the game away with a huge 45-yard touchdown pass from Lucas to Gripp. The kick was no good, making the score 27-21 Eagles. The Rams offense couldn’t drive down the field and on a fourth and eleven from the 46-yard line the pass fell short and the Eagles took over kneeling to end the game with a score of 27-21. The Eagles advance to 4-0 on the year and will face Philipsburg-Osceola next Friday. The Rams move to 1-2 on the year and will face an undefeated Central team next Friday.
