In Nanty-Glo, PA at McMullen Memorial Field the 4-3 United Valley Lions hosted the 5-2 Penns Manor Comets in an important Heritage Conference matchup. United Valley is looking to make a push into the playoffs, to make it two years in a row, and their third year since 2018, United and Blacklick Valley merged in 2022. Penns Manor is vying for their fifth straight playoff appearance since 2020. United Valley quieted Penns Manors offense early, and used their own offense to strike early, leading to a 27-0 United Valley victory.

Penns Manor received the opening kickoff to start the game, taking it to their own 38 yard line. Their first play gained them 5 yards, a tackle by United Valley’s Braxton Jelley led to a loss of 2, leading to Penns Manor turning the ball over on downs. United took over with the ball on their own 38. The first play of the drive led to a 62 yard touchdown run by Collin Nedrich. United Valley took a 7-0 lead with 10:02 in the first quarter. Penns Manor didn’t find any success in their second drive as a Collin Nedrich tackle led to a turn over on downs for Penns Manor. United Valley converted twice to go on a drive that stalled around mid field with the Penns Manor defense getting to United Valley’s Dimitri Worthington for a sack to cause a forth and seventeen.

Penns Manor threatened to score in the second quarter, driving down to the United Valley 3 yard line but was stopped on fourth and two. Neither team proceeded to score going into the half as both defenses kept both teams offenses quiet. With 5:44 in the third quarter, after a run by United Valley’s Dylan Stephens that go the Lions into Penns Manor territory, Dimitri Worthington scores on a 1 yard run to extend the leas, after a successful extra point attempt United Valley led 14-0. Penns Manor continued to struggle to get anything going and continued to be shut out by United Valley’s defense.

Penns Manor struggled to gain any traction from that point forward on the offensive side of the ball. Penns Manor quarterback, Amin Lieb, struggled to consistently complete passes, and the running game was not there at all tonight.

With 7:43 in the fourth quarter, up 14-0, United Valley successfully pulls off a fake punt, but fumbles the ball. United Valley recovered their own fumble to keep the first down, setting up for a United Valley touch down pass to extend the lead to 20-0. United Valley kept the scoring going with 4:29 left in the forth, Worthington threw a 26 yard touchdown to Rylan Garver. After a successful extra point it was 27-0 United Valley. United Valley’s defense would continue to shut down any momentum Penns Manor had.

United Valley improves to 5-3 with the win, and records their second straight shut out game. Penns Manor falls to 5-3.
