WORDS FROM THE HEAD COACH:
Derek will be fantastic as a senior. He has had awful luck with injuries for two years. To his credit, he has never missed a thing during that time. Derek is an outstanding dual-threat QB and a great free safety. He was missed last season. He has rehabbed his leg and is returning to full strength. I am excited that he gets to play after all the adversity he went through. His teammates admire his resolve and look to him as a leader.
LET’S GET TO KNOW DEREK:
How long have you been playing football?
This is my 10th year, so since I was seven
Why did you start playing football?
My dad played when he was a kid and my older brother played so I just wanted to play like they did. My brother, Ethan, played for Penn-Trafford and he was really good so that kind of inspired me
What personal goal do you have this upcoming season and what’s the team goal?
I would say make the First-Team All-Section. For the team, we wanna win a WPIAL Championship, that is the expectation
Who or what is your biggest motivation?
I would say my brother is my biggest motivation because he is always there for me and he gives me a lot of advice so I just want to make him proud. He is currently a receiver at Villanova

I would say just the first play last year because that was like my first game and I finally got to play high school football on a Friday night. It was like my dreams came true
What’s your favorite drill to run in practice?
I like this quarterback drill where we drop back and the coaches throw a lot of balls at us and you have to avoid them, it is always a lot of fun
Do you have any advice for underclassmen?
I would say just cherish every moment because it really does go by fast, I can not believe I am going to be a senior this year. I felt like I was just a little freshman yesterday, so cherish every moment

Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill

Usually eat pasta before the game, that is what the parents make and then make sure to stretch good and all that

My favorite thing is to go out and eat with friends. I love going out to restaurants. I mean I go to Chipolte an unhealthy amount

Probably when my mom makes chicken parm, that’s probably my favorite meal
What’s your dream job?
Physical therapist, especially with all my injuries I learned a lot about therapy and coming back from injuries
