Avonworth defeats Central Valley 28-20

On Friday night Avonworth High School improved to 2-0, on the season with a 28-20 victory over the Central Valley Raiders, who fell to 1-1 on the year. 

Avonworth quickly jumped to a 14-0 lead in the early second quarter, but Central Valley responded with 14 points of their own before the end of the half. 

On two consecutive offensive drives, from Central Valley, they turned the ball over with two fumbles. 

Avonworth made them pay on the second fumble with Brandon Biagiarellis second touchdown of the game. This gave Avonworth a 21-14 lead late in the third quarter. 

Central Valley had an opportunity with less than five minutes left on the clock in the fourth quarter, and Steven Rutherford came up big on fourth down with a one-yard rushing touchdown. This made the game 21-20 Avonworth. 

Central Valley decided to go for two, and came up short with just three minutes remaining in the fourth. 

Avonworth went down the field and scored with 1:35 left on the clock, to make the game 28-20. 

 

After a big Central Valley kick return they had the ball on Avonworth’s 25-yard line with 1:15 left in the game. 

With 10 seconds left Andrew Kuban had the game sealing interception for the Antelopes. 

Avonworth heads on the road next week to take on the Sto-Rox Vikings while Central Valley will head home to take on Hempfield.
