The game opened auspiciously enough for Hopwell. After an early turnover, they managed to hold Avonworth and score on a 61 yard TD run. Avonworth answered with their own 61 yard TD. From the passing game. In the second quarter, Avonworth took a two score lead before Hopewell mounted a drive and was facing a 4th and 1 from the Avonworth ten. The rush was stymied, but the runner pushed through, getting the first, before his efforts led to a fumble. The ball squirted through to the endzone before being pounced on for a score.

With an eventful first half, the second half dragged on  Many stoppages for injuries, penalties, and change of possessions. The fourth quarter saw Hopewell and Avonworth trade possessions. Hopewell moved the ball into Antelope territory before an interception over the middle ended their drive. But, Avonworth would fumble it away back to the Vikings. Avonworth would hold on a 4th down stop. And with the ball, would drive deep into Viking territory.

Facing a 4th and 3 from the 16, the Antelopes rushed for two to give the ball back over to Hopewell with under a minute left. The final sequence was an incomplete pass, a fumble and recovery by the offense deep to set up a 3rd and 20. With time running out, they were forced to scramble up to the line and clock it. The fourth down play was a scramble by the quarterback for a short gain. Ending it for the home team hopefuls.
