Both teams at the line of scrimmage

The game between the Beaver Area Bobcats and the Westinghouse Bulldogs, which took place at Wolvarena on Saturday, August 24 started off with a touchdown on the kickoff by Westinghouse’s sophomore K-Shawn Hawkins just 20 seconds into the game.

Beaver quickly answered back with a long catch by senior wide receiver Amari Jackson followed by another good catch from senior running back Qualan Cain, but their efforts did not result in a change in the scoreboard as Westinghouse was able to get an interception in the endzone and take the ball on to the 38-yard line.

Westinghouse huddle before the game

With the momentum in the Bulldogs favor the Bobcats felt like they started to crack as a few incomplete passes allowed for Westinghouse to take the ball back and score a second touchdown putting them up 12-0 with 3:19 left in the first.

But Beaver showed they were not ready to hand in the towel yet as Jackson scored three first downs in a row which allowed for Cain to rush in for a touchdown plus a made kick to make the score 12-7 in Westinghouse’s favor.

The Bobcats kept up their momentum they seem to have started in the first half as they scored another touchdown just a minute and a half into the second quarter to put them up 14-12.

At this point Beaver seemed to be in complete control of the game, and it showed with an interception by Bobcat junior wide receiver Philip Marino Jr with 9:19 left in the second.

Westinghouse was able to string a number of solid rushing first downs together which allowed for them to score another touchdown to put pressure on Beaver and go up 18-14.

Beaver started on offense going into the first half with a Jackson carry but he was stopped by junior Josiah Collins forcing the 3rd and 11. In a tough position for a first down the Bobcats got a little lucky with a foul that allowed them for a first down but they then fumbled the next play, giving the Bulldogs back the ball.

Two great catches for the Bulldogs allowed for a first down on the 4-yard line. They were then able to make the touchdown and the two-point conversion to make the score 28-26 for Beaver. The game was then stopped for an injury timeout.

With Beaver now with the ball they attempted to strengthen their lead but a solid tackle by Westinghouse’s Malik Harris plus a flag forced them to punt the ball away. Beaver was able to get the ball back due to their strong defense but the quarter ended before they could do anything with it.

Beaver won the game 28-26

The Bulldogs started the final quarter with the ball but a vital interception by Beaver’s Marino got the Bobcats the ball back with 9:08 left in the fourth but an incomplete pass forced them to give the ball back over.

With it still could be anyone’s game Westinghouse were able to string a few first downs and it seemed like they might be able to take the lead but an incomplete pass in the endzone forced them to try to make something from fourth and 13. They went for it but a Beaver interception in the Bobcats endzone with 3:24 left on the clock sealed the game. Beaver’s Jacksin was able to get two first downs in a row and from there they just ran the clock out to win 28-26.
