At the start of the game, Bentworth went on an 8 minute, 20 second drive that culminated in a field goal. Avella was forced to punt, but on the first play of Bentworth’s second drive, a turnover set up Avella for a quick touchdown and the lead. The second quarter saw a surge that was all Bentworth.

Despite only having 15 dressed players, the Bearscats went on a tear. A 7 yard TD pass led to a kickoff to Avella. Who, through miscommunication, recovered the kick at the five just as the returner was stepping out of bounds. Two plays later, the Bearcats sacked the Avella quarterback in the endzone for a safety. Avella tried to onside the free kick, which was recovered at the 25 by Bentworth. On the first play, a sweeping right and long cutback to the far left sideline led to a 25 yard TD run. The Bearcats capped off the half with a late field goal to go up 29-7.

Avella and Bentworth traded touchdowns late in the third, but Avella answered again with an 80 yard TD pass down the left sideline to make it 35-19. In the fourth, under an increasing rain, Bentworth scored on a short three yard TD run. Followed by Avella storming down the field for a 36 yard TD pass. An onside kick, and another 13 yard TD pass. Both conversion attempts had failed. The ten point deficit made the last bit of the game fruitless for Avella, as Bentworth was able to run out the clock in victory formation. Capping off a successful homecoming game.
