Saturday Night, the reigning WPIAl champion Bishop Canevin Crusaders would open up their WPIAL season at home against the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions. The Centurions, fresh off of a 56-35 roadrunning of Mt. Pleasant, were eager to put their name in the running of the 1A WPIAL title. In the first half, they played like it.
On Greensburg Central Catholic’s second drive, talented wideout Samir Crosby flipped the field with a catch down the seam. Two plays later he would put the Centurions on the doorstep where Da’sjon Craggette would capitalize.

The Centurions nearly gave the Crusaders a heart attack a play later, when Bishop Canevin fumbled the kickoff- giving GCC prime field position. Penalties and negative plays kept the Centurions from punching it in to go up by two scores.
The Crusaders wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, marching down the field and capitalizing from a yard out with a Jason Cross scamper.

The Crusaders would stick to their gameplan. Power rushing behind Marquis Carter led to a methodical drive where Carter would capitalize. A missed extra point would keep the Centurions on top briefly, but a field goal near the end of the half gave the Crusaders the lead 16-13.
