Jefferson, PA – The Tri-County South conference title was up for grabs. The California Trojans (9-1, 7-0) were the only undefeated team left in conference play. The Jefferson-Morgan Rockets (8-2, 5-2) were looking to share the conference title with a win. A 14-12 Rocket lead at the half, quickly evaporated due to an overpowering effort from the Trojans in the second half. The Trojans not only left Jefferson-Morgan with a 36-14 victory, but also sole possession of the conference title.
The Rockets slip to third place in the conference and the Bentworth Bearcats (8-2, 6-1) finish in second place.

The Trojans force-fed the Rockets a heavy dose of their bruising running back senior Malachi Peak on the offense side of the ball and a stellar performance from senior defensive end Noah Layhue. The Trojans racked up 319 yards on the ground, Peak led the way with 31 carries for 268 yards and four touchdowns. Senior running back Landon Abercrombie contributed with some big runs en route to 48 yards on five carries and a three yard touchdown reception. In the second half, the Trojans defense was dominant while holding the Rocket offense to two total yards. Layhue was in the backfield causing trouble for the Rockets junior quarterback Triton Farabee. Layhue and Peak both contributed key sacks and sophomore Alan Dennis picked off a Dehoet pass.

The rockets were led on the ground by senior John Woodward and his 13 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Senior Deakyn Dehoet had a 54 yard touchdown run, as well.
California, with the victory, most likely, will host a playoff game next week. Jefferson-Morgan will go on the road and Bentworth will have to wait to find out their fate when the WPIAL pairings are announced later today.
