Last season Bishop Canevin won their first ever WPIAL championship. The Crusaders look to make it two in the last two years this Friday when they take on the Union Scotties at Acrisure Stadium.
This season like last, Bishop Canevin has been the team to beat in 1A except this year they’re even better.
Senior Xavier Nelson last season finished with 42 receptions and 945 yards. Senior Marquise Carter last season finished with 580 yards averaging 5.5 yards per-carry. This season Nelson has 1,230 yards receiving and Carter has 1,545 yards and averages three more yards a carry.
And it does not just stop there. Sophomore Kole Olszewski last season passed for 745 total yards with 11 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. (All stats second on the team.) This season he leads the team in passing with 1,373 yards touchdowns with 16, and still only 4 interceptions.
The Crusaders have shown much growth in the last two seasons especially, however that can be the same said for the Union Scotties.
Junior QB Braylon Thomas has thrown for 981 yards and 10 touchdowns and is the team’s leading rusher with 1,168 yards, however he has also thrown 10 interceptions. The team also has three rushers over 200 yards and six players with 100+ receiving yards and two with 200+ yards.
This Friday is set to have a slate of great championship games and what better way to start off Saturday than with two rising teams in 1A set to face off.
