Carmichaels ends their 100th season celebration with a 29-26 Statement Win over Fort Cherry

Friday night, Carmichaels took on Fort Cherry during their 100 Season Celebration game at Coaches Field. On Fort Cherry’s first drive of the game, Cornerback Tyler Richmond Intercepted a pass by Matt Sieg in Mikes territory. The Carmichaels offensive drive ended quickly with a pooch punt to pin the Rangers deep in their side of the field.

Late in the first quarter a designed Quarterback run by Sieg turned into a fumble, setting up the Mikes’ offense near the red zone. Carmichaels capitalized on the opportunity with a strike in the endzone thrown by Senior Quarterback Alec Anderson. The Rangers soon recovered with long touchdown run of their own by Quarterback Matt Sieg to bring Fort Cherry up 7-6. Carmichaels would answer again with a kick return touchdown by Tyler Richmond, the conversion brought the score to 14-7 Mikes ending the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Sieg again found the endzone for his second rushing touchdown of the night bringing the game to a tie. The Mikes’ offense was quick to answer by marching down the field utilizing both the pass and run to set up a Quarterback run by Anderson. Anderson went on throw the conversion to Richmond bringing the score to 22-14 in Carmichaels’ favor.

Closing out the first half Sieg took it in for 6 once again. However, a failed conversion kept Carmichaels ahead 22-20 at the end of the first half. During Halftime Carmichaels unveiled their 100 seasons and 500 wins banners to commemorate the history of their program.

Carmichaels received the ball to begin the second half and after another long drive Anderson took it to the house again, growing the Carmichaels lead to 29-20. The lead was short-lived as Fort Cherry answered with a kick return touchdown of their own, with a failed extra point giving the Mikes a 29-26 lead late in the third quarter.

The game became a stalemate soon after and no team could manage to gain the upper hand, a series of defensive stops and turnovers kept the score locked in the last remaining minutes of the game. Fort cherry showed signs of life as the game dwindled down to its final minutes.

Anderson’s pass was picked off by Fort Cherry, giving the Rangers the ball at their own 9-yard line. The Matt Sieg led Rangers put together an impressive final drive getting the ball to Mikes territory in the final 2 minutes of the game.

The nail in the coffin for Fort Cherry came by their own doing when Sieg fumbled, and the ball was recovered by a Carmichaels defender. With 1:37 left to play Fort Cherry could not stop Carmichaels from gaining a final first down. The Mikes went to victory formation and Anderson took a knee to wind the clock down.

Carmichaels moves to 2-0 (1-0 conference) on the season and will face Chartiers Houston away next week while Fort Cherry moves to 1-1 (0-1) conference and will face Beth Center at home next week.
