With over 40 offers, the decision has to be a tough one but somehow Central Catholic Defensive end AJ Beatty narrowed that number to 7 back in May. Teams like West Virginia, Purdue, UCF, Maryland and NC State made the list, but ultimately it was a visit to see the North Carolina  that sealed the deal. The 6-5, 235 pound incoming senior committed to the Tar Heels on Sunday with a simple post to twitter:

Committed

We caught up with AJ and asked him about his decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

I’ve played football since I was 7.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Tar Heels?

Education, facilities and the staff were unbelievable. Made me feel like home.

PFN: Why commit early?

I wasn’t going to wait to commit when I knew it was the right place. I found the right place and committed with no hesitation

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at UNC, who recruited you?

I look up to Julius peppers a lot, and what he did there and in the NFL was awesome. I was recruited by coach Bateman and coach cross

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

They don’t have any kids on the team from Pittsburgh, so I’m looking forward to showing the kids from the south how we play up here in Pittsburgh

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

I want to study something in bio particularly dentistry

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the North Carolina program?

The most exciting thing about North Carolina is having Mack Brown back. They are rebuilding, and bringing in some top recruits. In a few years this team will be special

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Tar Heel land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Something most people don’t know about me is that I played lacrosse all my life until now. I would love to hop in a UNC lacrosse practice

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

I was influenced by Joey Bosa. I’m a big fan of his game, and watch a lot of his film trying to mimic his moves.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I know I made the right choice. It was made with no hesitation, and everyone in my corner fully supports it. UNC is home.
