“We’re back to playing Bears football.” That’s what Clairton head coach Wayne Wade had to say about him teams performance last night against a Leechburg team that scored 55 points in their opener. “We came out and dominated on offense and defense.”  The Bears scored three times in the first quarter and racked up 491 yards on the ground on their way to a 59-14 win at Leechburg.

Clairton was led by running back Dontae Sanders who had a stellar night, rushing for 213 yards on just 7 carries, scoring three times. The Bears opened the game with a little trickery that didn’t work with a short kick that was recovered by Leechburg. The Clairton defense held and on their first play from scrimmage Jonte Sanders found Brooklyn Cannon for a 69 yard scoring strike with 10:47 left to play in the first quarter.

That play opened the flood gates as on their next series Jonte Sanders scored from the 6, then Dontae Sanders found the endzone from 27 yards out to put the Bears lead at 20-0 just 7 minutes into the first quarter. “We had some kids play better in the second half. We can’t give away a half and then expect to do something against these guys or Springdale next week. If we don’t give great effort for 48 minutes are aren’t going to win games” said the Blue Devils head coach Randy Walters.

The first half dominance by Clairton continued with Isaiah Berry, who had 166 yards on the ground and 2 scores, took the ball over the goal line and Dontae Sanders scored with just seconds left in the first quarter. That put the Bears up 32-0 and the first half scoring just kept on coming as the Bears rolled to a 53-0 lead at halftime.

Leechburg scored twice in the second half, once on a 3 yard run by Braylon Lovelace and Dylan Cook added a one yard run. “We had some kids play better in the second half. We can’t give away a half and then expect to do something against these guys or Springdale next week” said Walters. “If we don’t give great effort for 48 minutes are aren’t going to win games.”

” I think we played great last week too, we just played a really good football team. We cleaned up some mistakes and hopefully we can continue to fix that. We’ll clean those things up. We just gotta keep getting better. We’re excited to play at home next week. Our fans haven’t got to see us play yet so we’re excited about that” said Wade after the game.
