
District 7: Mid Season Report

The 2024 WPIAL season has been one to remember. It has been full of surprises with game results, teams shooting up the standings and a few teams undefeated for the first time in a long time if not ever.
6A:
The top two in the class of 6A remain North Allegheny & Pittsburgh Central Catholic.The Tigers entering week six were undefeated, however Central Catholic won their regular season matchup with a dominant second half of play 27-14. The Vikings have also won four-straight to this point.
Norwin and Hempfield have both made their way up to 6A this year, coming from 5A, however Norwin is still looking for their first conference win of the year. Hempfield got theirs last week in overtime against Canon-Mac. Finally, Mt. Lebanon is looking for their first win overall as the Blue Devils have matched last year’s loss total.
6A Standings:

5A:
Class 5A currently has six undefeated teams entering week six. Three of the four of those teams are in the Allegheny Six Conference. Bethel Park, being one of those teams, is also the only school right now who has scored over 300 points on the season. However, only Pine-Richland is undefeated and has competed in three conference games. Three other teams only have one loss this season, including Latrobe who is playing in their first season at the 5A level. And what might come as the biggest upset this season, Penn Hills defeated Aliquippa in week five, 21-13.

4A:
Thomas Jefferson and Montour remain the last undefeated teams in the 4A. New Castle and Aliquippa follow close behind with one loss for both teams. Mars and McKeesport are trying to climb back up after a disappointing first half of the season for both teams with high pre-season expectations. Knoch currently sits atop the Greater Allegheny despite a losing record. Chartiers Valley has won 3 of their last four after starting 0-2.

3A:
The class of 3A has a few interesting storylines starting with the Central Valley Raiders who are playing in this class for the first time since being dropped from 4A last year. The Raiders struggled early on and are 2-4 overall to start, however are 2-1 in conference play and have won two of their last three games. Deer Lakes, Imani are the only undefeated teams remaining, but there remains other top contenders like Avonworth, Beaver, and Southmoreland. All three conferences still have close races in standings, so anything can still happen.

Seton-LaSalle and Ellwood City remain the last two undefeated teams in 2A class. Seton-LaSalle who is first in section three takes on Keystone Oaks later in the season. Keystone Oaks is in second place in section 3, with a record of 3 and 2. South Park is the only 5-1 team who ranks first in class 2A. South Park, who is first in Section, will face Seton LaSalle, who is first in section 3, for the last game of the regular season. South Allegheny and Western Beaver are all also 5-1 claiming second place in their respective sections.

1A:
The top four teams in class 1A all remain undefeated. The teams include Clairton, Leechburg, Jefferson-Morgan, and Fort Cherry. Clairton and Leechburg both compete in section one and will play each other next week, on Friday the 11th. In section three the fight continues as Fort Cherry faces Bishop Canevin next week. When these teams faced off last year, it ended in a 48-41 win for the Red Rangers in a mid season classic. Jefferson-Morgan’s undefeated season will have some tough teams ahead as the Rockets still have California and Bentworth who are both 4-2 this season.
