The Farrell defense was a bit more that the Bears could fend off last night. And it was a night full of mistakes for Clairton. The Bears had the ball inside the Farrell 10 yard line 4 times and didn’t get any points on those drives. “This is probably one of our worst games” said Coach Wade about the 13-10 loss to Farrell.

Farrell got the ball to start the game and a superb kick return set them up with great field position inside the Clairton 25 yard line. Unfortunately they didn’t take advantage of it and they turned the ball over on downs.

Clairton got the ball at their own 20 yard line. After a big run by Brendan Parsons they were at the Farrell 41 yard line. A big mistake stalled the drive when a bad snap resulted in a 20 yard loss. “When you have those types of plays,  you lose like 20 or 30 yards against a football team it’s hard to make that up” said Coach Wade.

Farrell started the next drive near midfield and after a 5 yard penalty Farrell struck when Raymond Raver scored on a 56 yard touchdown run.

On the next Clairton drive they got inside the Farrell 25. They turned the ball over on downs on that drive though.

Farrell started the next drive at their own 18. This was a long drive. A big run by Raver got them into Clairton territory, they got inside the Clairton 30 but that drive also ended by a turnover on downs.

More of the same occurred until late in the first half when Clairton started at the Farrell 32. On the second play of the drive Brendan Parsons connected with Kenlein Ogletree for a 33 yard touchdown. That tied the score at 7 with 3:22 left before half.

Farrell got the ball back and almost immediately made a big mistake when a pass was intercepted. Clairton got the ball at the Farrell 21. They got to the Farrell 1 yard line. After a run for no gain, the Bears turned the ball over and gave the Steelers the ball back at their own 20. “Defense wins championships this is a proven point for that” said Coach Pegues.

Farrell didn’t do anything with ball and punted it back to Clairton. That drive started at the Farrell 26. They didn’t get a touchdown out of it but they did get a 25 yard field goal by Kenlein Ogletree. That gave Clairton at 10-7 lead at half.

Clairton got the ball to start the second half. It was looking like a good drive until a 15 yard penalty set them back and the drive ended on an interception.

Clairton had more than enough opportunities to get into the end zone but they couldn’t find it. They started in Farrell territory more than a half dozen times but they only got 1 touchdown and 1 field goal total in the game.

Farrell retook the lead on an Anthony Stallworth 59 yard run which gave them a 13-10 lead with 1:56 in the third quarter.

Clairton still had great chances to find the end zone but they just never got it going, 2 of those drives in the fourth quarter ended on interceptions which included Clairton’s final chance to win the game. “My kids are resilient and they played their hearts out tonight” said Coach Pegues.

With the win Farrell advances to the PIAA Single A Championship against Bishop Guilfoyle. That game will be played at Hershey Park next Thursday at 1pm.
