Five District VII Players Named to 2022 PA Writers Class 3A All-State Team

Five players from the WPIAL made the Pennsylvania Writers All-State Football team for Class 3A, including three from PIAA Champion Belle Vernon.


The Belle Vernon players selected are running back Quinton Martin, defensive lineman Steve Macheska and defensive back Adam LaCarte.
Martin, is ranked among the top 30 juniors in the country by scouting services, ran for 1,279 yards and had 424 receiving yards, accounting for 31 of his team’s 70 touchdowns, including the lone score in Belle Vernon’s 9-8 win over Neumann-Goretti in the PIAA championship game.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior running back and defensive back holds more than 20 Division I scholarship offers, including Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State and South Carolina, among others.
LaCarte had a team-high 75 tackles and four interceptions from his spot in the secondary. He had an interception in the PIAA championship game.
Macheska was a Bill Fralic Memorial Award finalist after he posted six sacks, including two in the PIAA final. He added 68 tackles, six for loss, and recovered two fumbles.
The other two WPIAL players who were selected to the Class 3A all-state team were Avonworth tight end Peyton Faulkner and Elizabeth Forward defensive lineman Charlie Meehleib.
