It was a Friday night showdown under the lights as the South Fayette Lions hosted the Bethel Park Black Hawks in a hard-fought conference battle. Both teams came in looking to make a statement, and the game did not disappoint—featuring big defensive plays, explosive special teams moments, and a standout individual performance that stole the spotlight. What started as a fast-paced opening quarter turned into a back-and-forth contest before Bethel Park ultimately pulled away in the second half.

The first quarter kicked off with fireworks! Tyson Wright jumped the route, picked off the Black Hawks, and raced 51 yards downfield. That set up Ayden Wright, who powered in from 19 yards out for the touchdown. The Lions struck first—7–0 with 8:09 left in the opening quarter. The Lions’ defense kept the pressure on Bethel Park, forcing a punt, but South Fayette returned the favor later in the quarter. Bethel Park took over as the clock wound down, heading into the second quarter trailing 7–0.

The scoring in the second quarter started in a strange way. A holding penalty against Bethel Park in their own end zone resulted in a safety, pushing the Lions’ lead to 9–0 with 7:20 left in the first half. Bethel Park responded late in the half, finding the end zone on a touchdown pass to David Dennison in the final seconds. That score cut into the lead and sent the teams into halftime with South Fayette on top, 9–7.

The third quarter started off just as fast as the first. South Fayette took the opening kickoff all the way down to the 1-yard line, and quarterback Drew Welhorsky finished the drive with a sneak into the end zone, extending the Lions’ lead to 16–7 with 11:37 left in the quarter. Bethel Park answered right back, as David Dennison powered in for a rushing touchdown to make it 16–14 with 9:42 remaining. South Fayette’s next drive was short-lived, as Jack Johnson came up with an interception at the 9:07 mark, giving the ball back to the Black Hawks. Moments later, Dennison struck again, scoring his third touchdown of the night to give Bethel Park a 20–16 lead with 8:24 left in the third. That would be the final score of the quarter, as the Black Hawks carried their four-point advantage into the fourth.

David Dennison kept the good times rolling for the Black Hawks in the fourth quarter, finding the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the night to extend Bethel Park’s lead to 26–16 with 9:32 left in the game. The “David Dennison Show” wasn’t done yet— with 1:33 remaining, he scored his fifth touchdown, sealing the victory for Bethel Park. The Black Hawks closed it out with a 33–16 win over South Fayette.

Bethel Park bounces back from last week’s loss and will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup at home against Peters Township. Meanwhile, South Fayette will aim to rebound next week when they hosts Moon.
